i have a clandisc uk 206 which is king stitt "the ugly one" but the b side is not "beat dance" or "dance beat" every discog has that same mistake listed ! Even the trojan book. Ive searched you tube and come up with nothing so i thought id try here tia toad

You mention on line reggae discographies, I've yet to find one that isn't littered with mistakes. Having said that though there are so many UK records of JA recordings miscredited so unless you own all the discs it's not an easy task.

HI ALL..Just to point out, that many mistakes were deliberate, as often the record was released in this country twice, B&C/TROJAN & PAMA INT, or a different cut, however also to be considered, is that at the record companies, in typical Jamaican style the info was shortened & misspelled, as many people who worked in UK pressing plants did not understand patwa yet alone when written down, it's has led us to some wonderful titles from the time, so there's just 2 of many issues to consider? And as Dave said, some producers would come over, go see Pama, license them a tune then go across town and license the same song to Trojan, so you get things coming out on different labels with artists names changed (Pat kelly credited as Wonder Boy, Lester Sterling as Mr Versatile etc)

Trojan didn't have any new U Roy product to stick out to coincide with the tour, so they simply issued Dennis AlCapone's then current Treasure Isle 45 'Number One Station' as "Rock To The Beat" by 'U Roy".

Like the Studio 1 things that Pete mentions, this was not simply a case of somebody at a record company hearing a blank label 45 and taking a rough guess at who it might be by. Nor was it a case of a producer selling the same tape to two different companies as being by two different artists. This was an out an out attempt at deception by Trojan that - given how well known Dennis aleady was by that time, and how unlike U Roy he sounded - fooled a surprising number of idiots punters at the time...

HI TONY Yes indeed he did, in-fact he Dave Barker, Laural Aikin, & PAMA DICE were behind a lot of records that were recorded, in LONDON, that have become SKINHEAD CLASSICS, So it's the London sound, not the JA sound that rules?? DAVE
