Certainly came out on a Kent LP in the eighties.

Not sure about on a 45 though.

thanks andy mate , atb Eddy

Often wondered how southern Otis got involved with recording northern big city Maxine Brown, anyone know the background ? great version mind!

Never issued as a 45.

Maxine has clear and fond memories of working with Otis at FAME, she said he was one of the most professional people she ever met.

'Baby Cakes' is going to be on the September Kent CD release "Hard To Handle: Black America Sings Otis Redding", compiled and annotated by, er, me.

Full details on the website www.acerecords.com

It's got a lot of other nice things on there ase well, including unissued tracks by Arthur Conley and Mitty Collier and a previously unissued alternate take of Otis singing 'Loving By The Pound' (which, it turns out, was supposedly written for Bettye Lavette!)

She did an albums worth with Otis I read in in the Basement before he died. Look forward to the CD....

I hope it was before he died :)

Florence sent her down there to cut some new material as she'd gone a bit cold with her NY writers and both her solo / duets with Chuck. The idea was to relaunch her career with a new set of material / new sound. I am so glad we're going to hear it at long last.

It was her last throw of the dice too, since although Florence adored Maxine, she also let her contract lapse shortly after these sessions.

No 'album's worth' Steve, it was just a couple of songs I'm afraid....
