Hi everyone

OK - so there are two different coloured issues on the New Holidays - Maybe So Maybe No (Soulhawk 1008).

I have this on both the pink and green issues.

I haven't compared the two, but just wondered if anyone knows why is the green considered the first issue and the pink the second? The green is rarer by far, but why does that mean it is first?

Very grateful for any info.

people always tend to say the rarer press is the "first", true or not.

you can get a clue by looking at the deadwax of the two presses. Is it identical? If not, are there slight differences? Even if "identical", you might get clues as to which stamper was more worn.

Didn't see any difference in the deadwax of either my pink or green issues.

Anyways, I prefer the sound quality on the westbound release with the different/better flip.

Does a demo of the soulhawk release exist?

have you seen the westbound on vinyl? i've only ever seen it on styrene whereas all the soulhawk releases are vinyl at least. i know that it still could be a better mastered or cut press and that styrene sounds better than vinyl when it's not messed up, but i'd still rather have it on vinyl. the flip is better though.

A bit off topic.. but according to a friend (who is from Washington DC) this was a well known record at the time of release and gets played all the time on oldies radio. I expect you all know that, but it came as a surprise to me!

definitely doesn't get any play on the radio in chicago, and definitely not "oldies radio" in the traditional sense, maybe on some local soul shows. It was clearly a hit in detroit and was pretty common until it became in demand recently. It might have been a local hit in certain other cities.

you know something years ago i thought this 45 was dire........it sounds better these days...the last minute or so is hard work still....the mayer hawthorne version is ok also i guess

Interesting about getting play back in the day, but it definitely isn't on regular rotation in DC today, unless there's some pirate radio station that's rocking it. (Did he mean in DC, or Detroit area?)
