I've looked through but can't find an answer to this, so sorry if this topic has been done before.

My query is what is the story behind the yellow Cadet labels, some seem to be the only way to own certain titles.but other tunes appear on both the standard blue Cadet and the Yellow.

For example Ive seen both colour variations when it comes to Marlena Shaw's "Lets Wade in The Water", but only ever seen yellow copies of The Dells "It's Up To You". With some, like Marlena's 45, where both exist I've seen the yellow ones described as both originals and second issues, and even as Canadian, but there's not any evidence on the label to suggest they are not of US origin, or am I missing some vital clue?

With the yellow 70's sounding tunes in some cases I've seen white demo's, but not for all of them.

Any Chess/Cadet/Checker fans out there who wanna suggest a theory ?

The yellow Cadet labels started in 1971 with #5683 and continued until #5710 in 1975. I would guess if you saw a Marlena Shaw "Wade In The

Water" on a yellow Cadet it would be a reissue.

So I guess any new release from 5683 onward would be on a yellow label, any lower #'s should be on the blue label.

I'm thinking here that you mean the change of label design from blue to orange releases? Never thought of them as yellow!

I'm pretty sure that the orange/yellow releases are from 1971 when General Records & Tapes (GRT) acquired the label in 1971. That is definately the case with "it's all up to you"
