Barnsley Man Irate That His Historic Collection Deemed Worthless.

Local Cudworth resident Billy 'Casper' Butterthwaite has reported to the Barnsley Chronicle of his disgust at the derisory offers made to him by local record stores for his extensive vinyl collection.

"I sey, nah then, I cun't b'live my lug'oles wen laddo said they were worth noball. I think it's some kinda swiz, I mean, thev got reckids int winder priced up at bluddy 'undreds."

"One of the cheeky beggars even said he'd only charge me a tenner to tek em away, I sey."

Mr Butterthwaite is now seeking the assistance of an acknowledged Vinyl specialist to appraise his extensive collection of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, James Last and Klaus Wunderlich albums.

Thats the third time they've played Benny Goodman and Peggy Lee - Why Dont You Do Right.

Why cant the dj turn up earlier to hear what the others have been playing?

I host a record fair in the States and get many calls a year with people wanting to sell collections.  Some amazing, some crap.

There are a lot of good records out there, but there are a lot of easy listening, big band and other stuff people have that are amazed when you tell them they're only worth donating.

I'm sure there are people out there that say vinyl is making a comeback and that they think they're sitting on a goldmine.  Good luck to them.

I'm not sure if it's this way in the UK/Europe/elsewhere, but for years and years, 50s rock doesn't sell.  I don't touch it.  There are a few pockets of places where there is a demand, but not much.
