As Melvin has now departed back to the USA, I am looking at the Northern songs that have been played, or are strong Northern which he wrote or co-wrote, these may be included in future shows here or on the Continent.

I'm not after Songs he recorded himself, but the ones others did.

Butch played a blinding set of records about 7 years ago at a gig in Stoke that Chris Waterman promoted " An audience with Melvin Davis".  However since having my collection stolen, I no longer have the luxury of being able to sift through Detroit stuff looking at writers etc.

Here's what I have so far. All records marked with a * are already included or have backing tracks done.

JJ Barnes "Chains of love" *

Jackey Beavers  "I need my baby" *

Edward Hamilton "I'm Gonna love you"  *

Darrell Banks "I'm the one who loves you" *

Ann Perry   "That's the way he is"

Johnnie Mae Mathews "Lonely you'll be"

Calvin Williams       "Lonely you'll be"

If you can include YouTube or Refosoul links even better as this helps Melvin get the feel of what we are after over here.

Thanks in advance !

Rob.

Jackey Beavers  "I need my baby" *

The record label credits D. Davis (Don Davis) rather than M. Davis.

Sorry for the late reply to your question Rob, but I've been at work all day.i had a great time chatting with Melvin last sat eve and we discussed many of the songs he wrote that were sang by other people. As well as not being credited on the label he also said he wasn't paid a dime for Jackey Beavers as you already know. Chris.

Used to be in my top 10 but it's one of those records I played to death, over and over again, and I can't really listen to it now

I like it a lot too.

Funny that, how what's probably the best tune you've ever heard, one month, suddenly turns you off the next (I'm not referring to this one specifically, just generically).

I have loads like that, great records, but for some reason, not only are they not great to you anymore, you actually don't even wanna hear em.

Paris Sleepless Nights is an example for me personally.
