Can anyone tell me if this was the original version before Bobby sheen? .Also the Entertainers four used the same backing on Getting back in circulation, also on Dore.

Whispers website states their's was the first version.

I assume The Whispers version of 'Dr. Love' was the original because the song was written by group member Nick Caldwell.

Wandering a bit off-topic, the official A side of 
Bobby Sheen's version was 'Sweet Sweet Love' which is a great track.

Dore Records office was I believe "across the street" so to speak from the iconic Capitol building....Got to be a link/story there.
