Apologies if this has been asked before. I have A Love Reputation on the dark green Tarpon label and a mate of mine was offered it last week on blue Tarpon. Is there any difference (apart from the colour of course ha ha) as to when these were issued etc?

That happened a lot in the 60s, different pressing times & plants couldn't always get the right colours. As far as I know never booted, certainly not on Tarpon, only ever seen demos on the blue label. What's interesting is that Tarpon was owned by Emerson records, I'm guessing the same Emerson that made radios, quite a famous brand in those days.

Both colours are originals. The turquoise one is much more common than the blue one.

Emerson Records was owned by Billy "The Kid" Emerson who co-wrote the song. No connection (as far as I know) with the radio manufacturers.

I've never seen another record on the label that wasn't a Billy Emerson 45 (barring the Denise La Salle obviously) - but it appears there is a Matt (Guitar) Murphy track on it as well.

 

The label was named after his birthplace  - Tarpon Springs, Florida.

 

Billy was A&R at Chess for a period, so this is presumably how "A Love Reputation" ended up on Chess as the National release.
