Eddie Sull - Im looking for my baby.

Is there a difference between the two releases?

Cant find me Marc copy at the moment but seem to remember it being a punchier mix.

Am i losing it?

Ive had both mate and to my ears the Renee copy sounds better than the Marc.They are different mixes but i think the Renee copy is the first release

I'd guess Renee was first.  Marc should have been later in time.  It operated later than Renee, and the music publisher was Renee's in-house publisher, Leo Austell's Lamaja Music.

Marc, located in L.A., must have leased the master.  Both Eddie Sullivan and Leo Austell (and Renee Records) were in Chicago.  The lease may have been to get the record distribution on The West Coast, where Renee had none, as far as I know (at least for Eddie Sullivan's release).

I think you've got the L.A. based Marc label mixed up with the Chicago based Marc label. Although the Eddie Sull release (#102) falls within the range of the L.A. based label run (# 101- #107 , with #102 being unknown) , compare the logo on the Center Stage release ("Are You There" - Marc #7845) with the Eddie Sull 45 and you'll see they are the same.

Sorry.  I didn't know about a Marc label from Chicago.  But, Center Stage didn't exist when Eddie Sull's Renee record was released.  I lived in Chicago full-time until 1966, and only part-time from Fall 1966 through 1970, and DIDN'T know the Marc label existed.  Therefore, I conclude, the Eddie Sull record was issued some time from 1969 or later.  The Marc issue may be possible to date from pressing plant codes.  Can someone post scans of it and tell us what is engraved, scratched and/or stamped in the runout?

Upon seeing a scan of it, I now remember having seeing that Marc label, but not till about 1970.
