Okay folks,

I'm finally moving to London with my job for the next 18 months to 2 years and will be looking to get myself to as many venues down there midweek and probably once or twice a month at weekends.

I'll also be looking for shops to go looking for records, midweek, late nights, and the odd weekend.

Any tips everybody?

100 Club, Solid Hit Soul, Soul In The City, Boogaloo (Greenwich), Soul at the Barrio, Monumental, loads of others which I'm sure people on here can help you out with.

Don't know the Garnett Mimms album you're after...but i've just won 'As long As I Have You' (United Artists 3396) L.P. Is this any good, buying it blind really. Interesting as it's got the same cover as his 'Warm And Soulful' l.p.

Sadly not much in the way of record shops left that stock decent original vinyl. Intoxica is okay for LPs but very pricey. You might try Soul Brother in Putney but they lean more to the modern sounds, ditto Gerald in Camden Market if he is still there. Just about everything else closed some years ago.

I'm assuming from your 'events' listed under your avatar, that you lean towards sixties sounds, but you may want to give these a go:

'A New Chapter' which is on Wednesdays on a monthly basis, playing a range of sounds from 60s up to today. MarkH on here has details. And soulselect do the occasional (I think, but check with SimonM on here) Friday nights, playing stuff from 70s onwards.

Welcome to London, as Supercoursa mentioned we have Soul In The City 2nd Wednesday of every month at the Ditch Bar 145 Shoreditch High Street E1.

Unfortunately numbers have dwindled to a very low level recently but it’s still a good night although more of a social occasion with friendly people drinking & talking rather than a full on Northern night. Mainly 60s with a small amount of 70s/crossover.

Solid Hit Soul is every 2 months on the 3rd Friday & the next one is 15th December when Carl Fortnum is our guest, great music, great atmosphere a great night (in my humble opinion) top notch 60s all the way (address etc in my signature below)

I had the UK Warm and Soulful LP which featured 'Looking for you'....but I think - and I say think - the US album doesn't feature that track. Same cover, same track list minus 'Looking for you'...but I could be wrong. Jo
