I just moved to SF last week - are there any soul nights going on now? I used to live there years ago, but have no idea what is cooking now.

Google "Sweater Funk" for regular (modern soul every Sunday @ Knockout ) northern/modern soul nights.

Make Out Room (Mission) has some great Lowrider nights (free) Tuesdays

There's events constantly in SF and Oakland. Not sure if you are in SF or 'the bay area' but plenty to do. Silver and Black Soul Club, Alcatraz Soul Club are two more in addition to Sweater Funk. There's a big event the first weekend in June "Break It Loose Bay Area Soul Weekender".

I would recommend looking up the "Make Out Room" When we were there on honeymoon we had a great night, very nice venue and good music.

Everything everyone said is accurate.  There's tons going on in the Bay, including the Break it Loose weekender, as George mentioned.  Might I also suggest checking out the following for regular updates on soul/funk parties?

Cool! Thank you. Like I said, I used to live in SF in the early 90s ... but have been gone for a long time. Working a bunch, but want to get back into it.

Am in Detroit right now (for work), but found a copy of Matthew Barnett on Puff for really cheap! I guess there are still good records getting unearthed here...
