I notice that the Sharpees “Do the 45” has a Jobete publishing credit. Anyone know why? I can’t see any Motown connection, unless it’s something to do with the track’s similarity to Junior Walker’s “Shotgun”

Early copies of the 45 have different publishers- Motown probably noticed the similarities  between the two and asked for publishing credits.

Nothing to do with the query but 'Docker' from Gloucester (I think that's correct, my memory is going a bit) had the first copy that was played at the Wheel. He brought it to Lord Jim's in Huddersfield where I gave it a spin!

I agree it was most likely as it sounds a little like Jr. Walker and the All Star's "Shotgun"

It did get to the UK (President) without Jobete credit

Many thanks for your replies - I didn’t know about the different publishing on the earlier copies. I guess that supports the theory about the similarity to “Shotgun”

I remember it was a highly desirable tune around 1970, with price to match. Not long after, we were overrun with copies.
