I always thought they were DJ records, with the letter "A" standing for "Advance", as in "Advance Promotional Copy".

I have traced a similar copy on Popsike which is listed as a UK demo,i wondered what sort of price it is compared to the issue ? The demo seems scarcer

Don't think there is a specific UK demo so it will have been stamped with the "A" to differentiate from the regular issue copy.  No tax etc is paid on demos.

There will be a bit as it’s an official promo copy even tho it’s only a rubber stamp.. a bit like all those early president and action labels.. at least £150 imo
