A couple of years ago we had family over from Belfast and Glasgow (stayed in hotels our house is tiny!), as always, we brought out a big pot of bread sauce. All 6 extra guests couldn't believe what they were seeing. Never heard of it, didnt really like it but were polite enough to say yum

Hope I'm correct in "assuming" a lot of you on this forum are north of Watford, I'm in the very deep south. Just wondering is bread sauce with Turkey at Christmas a thing in the north of England? or have you never heard of it until now?

Hoping this thread is not patronising?

Essential. cold, with stuffing for turkey sandwich on Boxing Day. Or onion sauce will do just as well.

Just for the fun side side of things tasteful , instead of Cranberry sauce with your Turkey as anyone ever tried Winberrey or chuckleberry sauce , both red and very nice , I think they're possibly the same berry that grow wild in places like the moorlands of Shrewsbury , ie The Stiperstones , very nice .

Only really familiar with The Stiperstones from Malcolm Saville's  "Lone Pine" series along with the Long Mynd.

I do recall an outcrop called "Cranberry Rock" though and a quick 'google' has lead me to a whole new bunch of berries to investigate , as well as rekindling memories of some great reading , off to find the books again now , thanks for the memory jog ...

As a family none of us particularly "like" turkey (we don't mind it), but if it weren't for tradition, cranberry and of course bread sauce, we wouldn't even bother with a turkey.

Anybody never had bread sauce/heard of it that "may" give it a go this year? - if so, forget home-made, buy a ready-made luxury one for £2.

PS "Moving into Summer" did you say Twoshoes? You ARE the Optimist!😅

All our Xmas plans have been postponed, not for any bad reasons , so just the 2 of us decided we're not going to bother with a Turkey and all the trimmings , gone for a Rib roast with YPs and a winter roast instead, cheese board & yes Xmas pudding creme brulee 1 big one to share , so no bread sauce for us this year 😭

Nope , but the Rib roast has finally been used up , Rib roast on Xmas day , Cold sandwiches with horseradish last night and the grand finally Chinese beef curry etc and the dogs , "Frankie & Koko ", got all the leftovers plus all the winter roast we couldn't manage , not a morsel wasted , and the Kids are now coming for the New Year instead , you should have seen the look on the faces of the dogs when we told them the good news , lol.
