I had a near neighbour knock on my door Sunday afternoon saying a parcel had been delivered by the Royal Mail to my address, which it had not,she also said the driver had not tried to deliver it to her address because they had been in all day, I explained to her the parcel was not at my address.

2 hours later her partner turned up and asked the same question and showed me the proof of delivery on his phone, which showed my address pinpointed on the map and a hand taking the parcel in but no number on the door or any discerning features to identify my property and definitely not me taking the parcel.

Has anyone any idea what action if any I should take because I am worried that the neighbours think I have stolen the item.

I think any course of action you take very much depends on the attitude of the neighbour. If you could work together contacting the sorting office where the parcel was sent out from telling them what has happened they will know or should do who was on your round on that particular day, the fact you would be jointly making the enquiry would I think strengthen your case that the parcel has not been delivered to either of you.

Dependant on how good and how much of the hand is shown in the picture would it be possible to identify the hand as not yours, I say this because on my hands i have several scars through my work, also if it is clear the hand is either from a much younger person etc. 

    I would definitely go and speak to the neighbour one way or another for your own piece of mind as much as anything else. If indeed you do get the feeling they think you have stolen the parcel then I'd contact the post office making them aware that you are stressed due to a perceived accusation of theft which you would hope would make them look into the delivery.

Thanks, I was thinking of going round and asking but did not think it would achieve anything they were OK when they called but It seems strange and only the postman really knows.

My hands do have identifiable features due to operations but unfortunately they did not show on the photo shown to me but the door looked a different colour to mine even the lady who's parcel was missing said that.

Just been round to the neighbours house and lo and behold someone had called yesterday to give them the parcel, thought the t**ts would have had the decency to come and tell me it would have saved me some stress.

Great news. 

I have many tales re record deliveries from left on step (some) then nicked to pushed through open window dropping 2.5m onto floor after just missing crystal vase on window sill, slotted under adjacent shared ginnel door (ready for stepping on) and slotted into the gap between door and casing in full view of passers by. And to the wrong neighbour never to be seen again.

Ah never mind. Not a 2g 7" rarity thankfully. 🎶💃🕺

If a parcel is royal mail tracked and signed the post man scanner has GPS location had similar  problems contact sorting office

Thanks for your advice it gave me the push to go and see the neighbours and clear it up, pity the neighbours didn't have a bit more decency about them.

Glad you got it cleared up, I know if it had been me I would have had a couple of sleepless nights thinking my neighbour possibly thought I was a thief. Sadly I think common decency like manners in a lot of teenagers are fast becoming a thing of the past.

Thought you might be interested in an update with you replying to my plea for help.

The postman who delivered the said parcel has just called at my house on a complaint call and told me that the parcel had been delivered to my direct next door neighbour who lives directly next to the missing mail address and he never came to my door and the GPS was showing that, he also called at the recipient of the parcel to explain the situation to them.

One piece of information for anyone who is ever in a similar situation is the Royal Mail act upon complaints by sending the postperson who delivered the parcel to try to rectify the situation before taking any other action.

That's good to know for future reference, fingers crossed where I live there are relatively few houses and most of my neighbours have lived here for several years, the postmen rarely change hence I have had no problems with Royal Mail deliveries. Cheers for the update.

The postman was at fault he wrote the wrong number on the card but we all make mistakes, more annoyed with the neighbours for not coming to tell me it was handed to them a day later.

But my own ideas how do do things are not how other people always work, thanks again for your help.

 

You need to phone the delivery office up and they will talk to the post person who was on duty that day , or try and collar the post person and ask them directly, sorry if this has already been mentioned

Thanks, but please read my posts from Tuesday and yesterday, good info for anyone in a similar situation in future.

Jut to add it was Royal Mail postal deliveries not the letter deliveries and it was Sunday too.

Sorry should have done, but was in a hurry 👍, used to be a postman and the regular people usually know there customers, but they employ a lot of agency staff at this time a year so the service can suffer a bit, glad it got sorted, it’s usually something easy to sort  out 👍

No probs, I think with him just delivering parcels that day and howling with rain and blowing a gale it was a genuine mistake and fair play to R.M. for calling on me and explaining the situation I assume the people whose parcel it was must have been in contact with R.M. to explain, I was more annoyed with the neighbours for not having the decency to call round and say the parcel had been taken round to them a day later by another neighbour common decency costs nowt.
