I've got a 4" disc like that.

A Mayer Hawthorne 4" 45rpm disc with a very passable cover of Jesse James 'love is alright' on it.

Here it is with the soul city RE 7" for size comparison.

Is the sound quality OK Timbo?

The grooves are much closer together than on a regular 7" - a bit like the innermost band tracks on LPs...

It's really nothing to write home about.

A noticeable rumble until the music starts and very low volume -challenging to DJ with and I'd not bother for listening at home because of the rumble!

All in all a bit of a gimmick IMHO, like a flexidisc!

The Mayer Hawthorne 4" record came with a CD and was never sold as a stand-alone product. So yes, more like a gimmick.

Mine came with the lp but yes a giveaway gimmick.

thanks. Only knew of the CD as I bought it back then. still have it but unfortunately the 4" got lost somehow.
