Need a couple of things corroborating, or correcting for a project I'm putting together and hope folks on here won't mind chipping in...

1. Were the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band the session musicians at Keymen/Mirwood? If not they sure do a good impersonation. Anyone know the line up(s)?

2. Mary Love - You Turned My Bitter Into Sweet - King. Anyone actually seen the white typefaced label of folklore? (Pete S? Tony R? Paul Mac? Pete Wid?). I've never seen it. I've had just about every UK rarity through my hands at some stage, but have never seen this. Anyone?

Yes I've seen the Mary Love Dave, it's a one off but it's not that interesting, it's just plain white labels both sides and the titles/artist were filled in by the record's owner (Mick Smith) when he got them off Rita & Benny when they sold up at the end of the 70's. For instance, if you got a normal King copy and took the label off you might as well say you'd got a black label test pressing!

Checked the Mirwood CD sleeve notes for you as its an interesting question, they were Bill Cosby's backing band The Soul Runners and after Fred Smith produced Little Old Man they got signed up as The Hideaways and then were put with Charles Wright (by Bill Cosby). So doesn't look like they were the backing band. Though I guess as they were studio musicians they might appear on other recordings? One for Ady perhaps?

In fact didn't get that quite right, they were also Watts 103rd St on Keyman (Spreadin' Honey) and Mo Soul (?). Didn't the Soul Runners also record under that name?

PS Anyone reckon the Zu Zu Blues Band on A&M is the same track?

Zu Zu Man is the same tune as Brown Sugar but with a totally different (and better) arrangement...

One session man who worked with Watts 103rd was Bobby Womack. He played guitar on 'Spreadin' Honey', originally written as a radio theme for DJ Magnificent Montague. The extended version became a small R&B hit on Keymen.
