Picked this up for £20. I was told it was an original and it appears so. However, I've heard there are vinyl boots. How do you tell the difference? Isn't styrene lighter more flexible? The label on mine is moulded on.

It's the other way round Mate. Vinyl is more flexible than styrene. Most styrene records are stiff and their labels are made of paper and glued on.

Yours is vinyl with a moulded label. The boot was on vinyl and a white demo. Original has the delta number 59636 in the run out groove.

Try and "flex" styrne and it will more than likely break.

There were many, many culprits reproducing original vinyl in the 70s.

The guy who did countless look-a-likes and sold them as originals I've never seen post on here "not under his own name" anyway.

Bob Catteneo & Henry Mariano, two very nice guys, did wonderful repros of Rockabilly, Popcorn, Doo-wop and Northern Soul but never sold them as originals and even put dates of 1973 etc in the deadwax on many of their work.

The Bobby Garrett and many many other titles were initially sold as originals, it is only when you handle these 45s regularly you realize a section of them fall into the same "mould" and came from the same source on the East Coast.

It doesn't matter who did them, because it was decades ago but what does matter is that collectors get a fair deal and buy an authentic record not a repro and all dealers and collectors are aware of what is real and what is not.

INFO of the repro blue copy of Bobby Garrett is as follows.

scratched in matrix small writing. Hold matrix 65 - 1037 @ 6 o'clock rest of matrix reads as follows: jt "vocal" @ 5 & 4 o'clock respectively. C 1 @ 3 o'clock 8 inside a semi-circle DELTA # "TRIANGLE" 59636 @ 12 o'clock. This record is a bootleg sold as an original. Made from flexible vinyl with an almost exactreplica of the original label of the blue Mirwood stock press.
