SHADES - "..a club that introduced Northern Soul....." -I don't think so! Though those do sound like the words of a certain Northampton ex-sourcer. Personally I'm not bothered if it re-opens or not. It wouldn't be the same. I spent many a happy time at Shades from day 1, and enjoyed it even more as the Maple Ballroom before it's initial re-furb. There were far better places within Northants if you were getting into what was to become known as "Northern" though. Get your gear together in Shades and head off to Wilby was the order of the day for me. Happy days. November 14, 200717 yr I read this story and it made me laugh..... seems Northern soul is the buzzword of hip and happening journos ...the old Shades venue is along Bridge street...which is virtually wall to wall pubs ....clubs etc and one time was the home of Opus 2...another soul venue......so from a soul lovers point...Northampton Town is virtually a soulie nightmare...but from a pub/clubber viewpoint..it is a paradise....so i really cannot understand the moral (sic) stance taken by the Town Councillours....Delxx
