Hi there,

I read some very interesting topics on 80's soul and wondered about 90's soul.

Any suggestion on what is worth having / listening?

Thanks, Marco wicked.gif

I expect your used to it by now :lol:thumbsup.gif:lol:

I'm sure Girfy boy and Derek can sort people out with a lot of this genre, particularly on vinyl.  thumbsup.gif

DIDNT SHE SING ON SPILLER, GROOVE JET? SAMPLING AN OLD SALSOUL NUMBER thumbsup.gif

She was the leader singer of the "Audience" before going solo. The sample is from Carol Williams - Love is you - Salsoul; quite a typical record of the day and not too bad

If you like that, its worth watching out for a Lavelle White CD from '94 with a track "About The Facts Of Life" - been spinning this one quite a bit recently. And Jennifer Holliday - 'Its In There' from '91, which will never date. Mica Paris's finest moment 'You' from 1993 ish. A lastly the first Blaze album from '90 for Motown - killer stuff !!!

I've actually put 'I Wonder' by Blaze on these comps I've just done. Choon. thumbsup.gif Agree on all those you mention as well Girfy lad, all fantastic, though 'Love Stories' from the same Jennifer Holliday album gets my vote.

I was talking crap about the Nu Colours as well, their second album is the self titled one, the first one came out around 92 but I can't find that one to get the title.

Ive no idea as to when it was recorded but as far as I know it`s cd only. Seen it for sale from time to time at around the  £20 to £25 mark. Steve Plumb might be worth trying as ive seen him have it for sale.

Hope this helps

According to the sleeve notes this was part of a series that rang from rock & roll to country to reggae to r&b and pop, all taken from the vaults of a bloke called Joe Venneri who was an engineer on many big hits, so at a guess they were 70s recordings as there's an alternate take of his pop/disco record 'Get Down' which came out in 78 I think. This CD came out in 95. I've seen one on Plumby's wall at Yahhmuff for £40 but it's got a different cover to this so what the story behind two releases of this comp I couldn't say.

Brings back some memories that Blaze LP - just love that 'Gonna make it work now' :shades: quality mellow groove amongst a raft of goodies. Remember 'So Special' being a huge record along with Paul Simpson's version of Ruffin's 'Walk away' at the Stadthaus Bockler Park All-nighters during one of my spells in Germany.
