This past thursday, one of the national swedish TV channels aired a documentary about latin soul and salsa in New York City. Parts of it were quite damn good in my opinion, and especially the first 20 or so minutes which consisted of recent Joe Bataan interviews/footage/performances shot in New York (singing "Subway Joe", "Ordinary Guy" etc.).

The entire programme can be seen on the following link:

If you want to stream the file in VLC player (or similar), use this link:

Some of the talk is in swedish, but the interviews are in english. I'd recommend those of you who are into this kind of stuff to check it out, epecially the parts that covers Joe Bataan/Johnny Pacheco/Fania and run from:

03:50-10:40

12:40-16:15 (awesome!)

18:45-22:10 (perhaps even better!)

Saw him last weekend in Barcelona, he was outstanding. I'm not one for live group much of the time, but he had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Introduced his tunes and spoke to the crowd in latin, had a venue of 700+, mainly 20 somethings boogieing their socks off all night long.

Why doesn't someone bring him over to the UK?, he would be a great act for a weekender alittle different maybe, but from what I saw better than many of the acts I've seen at Weekenders.

Outstanding :D
