As we draw closer to the 35th anniversary of that historic place on station road, i`d like to know who were the people who jumped off the train at ince, just outside wigan, remember going past on night to see police officers awaiting the weekly train jumping regulars, did any get caught?

We used to get on at Burscough, but as the station was not manned some nights we told the people at Wigan that we got on at Appley Bridge. One Saturday night they had police at Appley Bridge making sure no one got on without a ticket. Busted!. It was around the first anniversary. The week before, or possibly the week after., I got busted again, going to an allnighter in Newton Aycliffe at the Centre. WE jumped the train all the way there, but got busted coming home again. Spent most of the day in Leeds nick.

A few quid in fines & days off work for me & my dad as I was only 16.

loads of people used to do it,& were allways trying to get me to do it but i never had the guts allways remember getting the milk train home from leeds to york that was risky enough for me

I had a 'Train Jumper' when I was about five, my mum knitted it, with a nice train on.....

Never got caught, but I remember Ronnie Pedley and I, so off our heads and chatting manicaly, totaly forgetting to get off and not realizing it until we had been stationary in Stockport (the end of the line) for about an hour!

John Young and I used to jump the train all the time, had it down to a fine art at York. We would walk along the railway bridge over the Ouse, by the museum gardens, straight onto the platform thus avoiding the ticket barrier, and do the same coming back! Easy peasy, unless the Scarbro' train appeared on the bridge as we were crossing....... Run for your f**king life!

THIS HAS REMINDED ME DID ANYONE USE THE PERSIL TICKETS TO GET ABOUT ,MOM USED TO SAVE THE COPUNS UP THEN TWO COULD GO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE TICKET OFTEN I WAS ON WOLVO TRAIN STATION SHOUTING ANYONE WANT A PERSIL TICKET LOL

We used to catch the bus to Wigan from Blackburn(change at Chorley). Used to walk on the bus pass the queu and find a old bus ticket and suck the writing off just in case a inspecter gets on. Got away with it for ages. Than we used to go in mate,s mini-van, than got a car myself.

Hi dave hope your well, never trusted cars after one incident, my mate had passed his test on the friday, and took us in his FORD CAPRI on the saturday, his was one of those with those ring clips on each corner at the front of the bonnet, we`d stopped off at birch`s and a couple of lads who were with us dropped there gear, while my mate checked the water, oil etc, you know what its like with your first car anyway were flying down the m62 on the outside lane, he must have forgot to put the bonnet clips in properly, when the BONNET flew up over the windscreen he was just screaming his head off like he was on a roller coaster, anyway we managed to get onto the hard shoulder, we were all in a state of shock when one of the lads in the back said fookin ell that was the best buzz ive ever had, we all p*ssed ourselves and then went on our way

Remember jumping off and seeing non -league Wigan Football stadium and as LUFC supporters having a laugh about how crap they were...How times change

Allways remember changing at leeds, and guess what pulled in, THE MANCHESTER UTD FOOTBALL SPECIAL, riot or what!!!! a lad from york said away theres loads of us lets ave em and did like a charge down the platform expecting everyone to follow him but only three did, yes we took a good hiding that night

I once slept in the luggage rack of an old train , coming back from Manchester one time ......

I woke up , and had the imprint of the string / cord webbing of the rack , embedded into the right side of my face ......

Talking of Wiggin station , we had the pleasure ( due to automobile difficulties one weekend ) of having to travel to , and out of , the stated terminus ........

On the Sunday morning , we took the liberty of resting whilst we waited , on the floor on bags , coats or whatever we had , only to be told by a jobsworth of a porter to " sit up : you are making the station look untidy - it's not a holiday camp " .......

Those string racks! Going to the Central 'niters, pre-Wigan, all the York lot used to pile into one of those carrages ('rapist' specials they used to be called, the ones with no corridor, once your moving you can't get out!) About 15 of us, up on the racks, everywhere, take out the light bulbs, slap on a cassette, Magic!

yes of course malc well it was one of those award winning stations remember the coaches when the trains were off?

ohh God...i Remember it well !!....Get on the station with a Platform ticket...Hiding in the loo`s while the ticket colector was around...Then running as fast as we could down Wigan station....Then jumping Down over the Bridge!!!! ...How we never broke a leg ill never know!!! lol

lots of us from the manchester area used to hop off at ince,

selnec bus pass got you on the train into victoria, and on to the wigan train, ( well, about three stops along before it ran out.)

then off at ince, no station barrier, 10 min walk into wigan.(time passes quickly when your 16 & off your face on cheap wizz!)

only to be followed the next morning by the journey from hell that was the first bus back to bolton, then on to oldham. what a night mare!!
