I would love to see them live,NOW all i am saying if its good-enough it will make it on its own merit,the charts are awash with so called soul music,read some old blues & soul mags!used to have r&b/soul charts,which were largly dismissed out of hand by the media,and only a few so called soul records in the pop charts!!whats changed is this the new media,like new labour a load of B*******....

i get regular vinyl lists from the soul brother shop in putney - excellent shop btw, well worth a visit if you haven't been there, cum down one sunday and we'll go over while the girls go to shoe shops - and they've started a deep funk section (quantics, mastersoundz, etc)

i reckon you're on the verge of a crossover - south bank show special cummin up? could be the next big thing

I have picked up a few Sharon Jones tunes..Great production..Would like to see her live and then make up my mind..If this kind of thing charts then some will say its great and others will not be keen,thats how it is..Same thing with the 90s and Acid jazz,that brought some younger folk onto the rare soul/deep funk scene,thats good aint it.... This don't mean that Ken,Jt or Dave are right or wrong,just a different outlook...I played some acid jazz in the 90s alongside rare groove and northern,this was a good way of bringing new blood into the scene..I took some people from the acid jazz scene to the 100 club and that was them hooked..You will only get one in a thousand who will take to rare soul but when they do its a joy to see...

Back in 1975 when all the media were jumping on the bandwagon, I believe it was a Sunday Times reporter hung around the scene for a few weeks taking in Wigan and Mecca etc. I seem to remember he did a reasonable unbiased write up.

If I remember correctly I think he was "hosted" at the venues by Ian Cunliffe. I may be wrong though. Was it you Ian?. I remember meeting him at Mecca.
