The Guardian is running an interview and feature on Ewan Spencer, details and link folow below ‘We’ve always been very good at enjoying ourselves’: Ewen Spencer’s photographs of a lost clubbing generation In the late 1990s, the photographer shot images of dancers at niche London club nights. He reflects on how smartphones have changed the scene, and how his pictures became a book These pictures aren’t about Teds, Skinheads, Northern Soul, Acid House or Jungle and Garage, they’re not about Nu Metal or South London blackout clubs…but they are all here alongside high street carpet clubs because here in the UK we know how to throw a party, we work hard and play hard, grace under pressure, street style into high fashion To quote Ray Davies I ask, 'Where have all the good times gone’? New on a recent release on Acid Jazz's Fingier imprint, a great two sider from Diane Ward and the Kevin Fingier Collective 'Why Don't You Go Home / Cocktail De Medianoche' Label release notes/blurb follows below Acid Jazz presents the next instalment of the Fingier Records Classic series: The Kevin Fingier Collective, featuring incredible voice of Diane Ward with 'Why Don't You Go Home', alongside Latin floor-filler 'Cocktail de Medianoche'. With 'Why Don't You Go Home' Fingier produces a monster Rhythm & Blues tune that will take you straight to the King and Federal R&B sound, and for the B side, 'Cocktail De Medianoche' is the perfect mix of Boogaloo and Northern Soul. Percussion, flute and horns will make this a Fingier favourite for lovers of Latin grooves and Uptempo Soul. Diane Ward is singer from USA, who grew up singing Gospel in her local church. Music was always a big part of her life, and she has always had a deep interest in Rhythm & Blues and Jazz. She lived in Argentina for a couple of years, and one night Kevin saw her perform and instantly her voice blew his mind. In his words: “She’s a proper R&B singer, she reminded me to Ruth Brown, Mary Ann Fisher or Lula Reed. She has that potent and obscure sound that took me to those lately '50s early '60s Popcorn tracks” With two monster tracks, calling this a ‘Double Sider’ wouldn’t be enough, both with that '60s sound we've come to expect from Fingier Records. If you've been following us over at our Instagram, we've been trying to share the tributes as they've come in. Major tributes from some of the biggest names in media are a testament to the impact Syl left on the musical landscape these past 80+ Years (Pitchfork, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, NYTimes). And even after all these years, we still get folks contacting us asking for more Syl or telling us they just discovered him through a Wu-Tang song, a Snoop Video or any number of Historical docs around Pop, Soul, Hip Hop, Blues, etc...
