CDKEND 500 Kent Records Format: Audio CD Release Date 30 April 2021 Release notes A preview clip of the release notes follows below Back in Los Angeles where future collectibles such as ‘Drop That Gun’ by Teddy Reynolds and ‘Monkey Walk’ by the Kingsmen were being pressed. From the same city comes the topical 1962 sound of ‘Air Travel’ by Ray & Bob, as covered in the UK by the young Chris Farlowe; the Fashionettes’ ‘Earthquake’, which spotlights the girl group sound, so symbolic of the 60s; and Jackie Lee’s ‘The Bounce’, which conjures up images of shimmering discotheque lights and go-go dancers strutting their stuff. Feminine jazz vocals come from Byrdie Green, who in 1967 made Ma Rainey’s ‘See See Rider’ a happening sound. ‘Sundown’ by the Merced Blue Notes has a similarly cool jazz vibe and session instrumentalists the Birds Of Paradise do a seamless job on ‘Bossa Blue Port’. For Fame completists searching for the slick R&B sound of ‘Go Away With Me’ by Hollis Dixon, we’ve jumped the gun and included it here, while Stax specialists will no doubt be pleased to get their ears on the southern funk of Eddie Kirk’s ‘The Hawg’. One World Records has been in touch to inform us that due to demand the release date of their much anticipated 45 by Michelle David & The True-tones titled 'Good Good Good' has now been brought forward to 21 May 2021 Release details and audio previews of this fine release follow below NEW RELEASE INFORMATION One World Records Label: One World Records Catalogue No: OSP 5006 Format: 7" SP Release date: 21 May 2021 MICHELLE DAVID & THE TRUE-TONES: Good Good Good (Vocal) / (Instrumental) Video HOT ON THE HEELS of Michelle's first UK single 'Yes I Am' which gave One World Records a soul hit in January, this uptempo follow-up has even more of a retro flavour and is already played on hundreds of radio stations in the UK and in Europe. Pre-orders are so high that the release date has been brought forward to 21 May. American-born Michelle co-wrote 'Good Good Good' with group members Onno Smit and Paul Willemsen who also handle production. This release also marks a name change for the trio who were previously known as The Gospel Sessions. DEPTFORD NORTHERN SOUL CLUB ANNOUNCE THE DEPTFORD NORTHERN SOUL CLUB RECORDS RELEASE OF DNSCR013: KINGS GO FORTH ‘ONE DAY’ & WILLIE TEE ‘FIRST TASTE OF HURT’ CLUB NIGHTS NOW ON SALE FOR JULY ONWARDS Continuing their monthly vinyl re-issues through their independent label via PIAS, Deptford Northern Soul have announced the release of Deptford Northern Soul Club Records DNSC013 with Kings Go Forth ‘One Day’ and Willie Tee ‘First Taste of Hurt’ released in stores and online on Friday 30th April. They have also announced a return of their popular club night from July onwards, with a monthly residency taking place at Manchester’s YES. The release follows their previous re-issues this year with Sue Lynne ‘Don’t Pity Me’ in February and Doris Willingham ‘You Can’t Do That’ alongside Pat Hervey and The Tiaras ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind’ in March. Deptford Northern Soul Club also released their limited-edition vinyl boxset in December, which features 12 7” records, exclusive patches, stickers and a 2020 Zine, and marked a year since Deptford Northern Soul Club launched their label and four years since they began the first of their popular club nights. Their new record release features Kings Go Forth ‘One Day’ on the A-Side, which is a spine-tingling anthem originally released in 2008 on Mr C’s and was the band’s excellent funky debut 45 release. The B-Side is Willie Tee’s ‘First Taste Of Hurt’ and is a deep and soulful croon with an enveloping rhythm and a euphoric lift, first released in 1972 by the New Orleans’ soul legend. The release is available from local record stores and online at Bandcamp here. Launching the label in November 2019 in association with PIAS, the label’s first release was rare vinyl find Lester Tipton’s This Won’t Change, with a B-side of Edward Hamilton and The Arabians Baby Don’t You Weep. Both tracks epitomised what the label are all about; showcasing quality classic soul records in the way in which they were meant to be heard to both new and old soul fans. After launching in 2016 and spending the past few years bringing the best of Northern Soul to sold out venues up and down the country, Deptford Northern Soul Club residencies and club nights have largely been on hold due to Covid-19, but the pair are finally back from July onwards. They also have a one-off sold out show at London Night Tales on Friday 30th April.
