  1. Its hard to take in that today the 1st of September marks the 18 year point since day one of Soul Source. Long time readers may recall that over the years there has always been a sort of failure to mark these landmarks with any memorable events or indeed words. This time its going to be a bit different, 18 years is a good point, both site wise and real world life wise to take some time to regroup, look at things and then move onwards, That's what have been doing over the last few weeks and here's my take. The recent major upgrade puts the site in a very good place technical wise On the admin side (as in the way the site was being run), the customer friendly service mainstream type approach of the last couple of years was a bit of a mistake, maybe needed, but maybe still a mistake. Sure it kept some moaning types happy but overall it hasn't worked that well and more importantly for me has sucked some of the enjoyment out of running this place. So there will be a few changes on that site both on how things are run, how problems are dealt with and the overall approach I have to looking after Soul Source As always thanks to all the mods past and present who have got us to this point, it's always appreciated. Of course big thanks to all the members who have made this place what it is, without you as they say it be squat Thats it - the most major landmark yet, 18 years now since day one - blimey Mike 1 September 2015

  4. Am a bit late on this which does sort of demo that it may be worthwhile raising members awareness about using the submit news feature Up in the gallery member Oscar C Romp has recently uploaded a few images to highlight his current exhibition The last nite is tonight so if after a mellow Bank Holiday weekend finisher then this could be just the place, if not then hit the link and see what you are missing Gallery album link Flyer Event details Link A series of drawings, paintings and prints, exploring northern soul, jazz dance and club culture down the years and at first hand, on the dance floor as a participator...There are drawings, paintings and prints form the mid 80's up to the present day, in a variety of sizes, prices ranging from £25 upwards. A bit short notice, I know, as the show closes on 31st August. But if you live nearby, please drop by The Plough Pub has a fine selection of real ales and lager, and the food is good. They also have frequent live music as well as vinyl-only DJ nights. Well worth a vista in its own right,- specially for Sunday dinners
  5. A interesting read SENTINEL PEOPLE: Chris still carries a torch for the Northern Soul scene... "Two local DJs, Keith Minshull and Colin Curtis, approached me and asked if I wanted to have a Northern Soul night. They were very influential in bringing Northern Soul to Stoke-on-Trent. We put on our first Northern Soul all-nighter, tickets were 50p and the place was packed. I thought, 'this is all right'. It went on for nearly two years. https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/carrying-torch-Northern-Soul-scene/story-27704169-detail/story.html

  8. A recap news post of two recent artists passingon posted in the forum the last couple of days Posted in the forums by Dave Welding Sadly heard last night that legendary Detroit Drummer/Producer/Writer George McGregor passed away last Friday. He had been ill for some time, and had suffered a heart attack early last week before finally passing away on Friday. R.I..P George Dave Rob Moss recently posted an article on this legendary Detroit drummer, which can be read here By 1965 George McGregor was one of the busiest drummers in Detroit not to work for Motown. “I did a couple of sessions in the late 60s for them. That's me on 'Ain't no mountain high enough' and 'Ain't nothing like the real thing'for Marvin and Tammi, but I didn't need them 'cause I was so busy with everything else. I did most of Edwin Starr's things with Motown 'cause Edwin didn't like to record at their studio on Grand Boulevard – he liked Golden World and would record there. Back in '63 I was with Eddie 'Bongo' (Brown) when he introduced me to Mickey Stevenson. Eddie told him I was a drummer and that I could write good songs too. Chalky also posted this sad news in this thread https://www.soul-source.co.uk/topic/340865-big-frank-rip/ Just read that Big Frank Murphy (aka Frank Dell) passed away in July. So pleased to have seen him perform at Cleethorpes, thank you for the music. 11. this was posted up in 2008 by Paul Mooney, but as happens a lot on here , still had unaware posts etc for years afterwards /forums/topic/81035-micky-moonshine-going-rate/?do=findComment&comment=868321 I just had a call from PAUL CURTIS. His former publisher told him I had enquired about him and he wondered what it was about. He is amazed at the myths and found it all very amusing. Paul said he recorded "Name It You Got It" at Decca's number 2 studio and he remembered they had a "Who is Micky Moonshine?" poster campaign in London to promote the single. He hasn't written a pop song for a few years but he recently wrote another musical and is now writing a book. He's been very successful as a writer but he sounded pleased that "Name It You Got It" has received so much underground attention. Best regards, Paul Mooney

  19. ok thanks for all the views, time and effort taken appreciated as far as the guide is concerned rather than apply strict rules with cut off timings etc etc feel may work better if leave it to the actual promoters to call what they class their events as and so what section to add if people play the game then shouldnt be no hassle in theory will see how things go...

The original poster posted what i thought was a fairly well mannered question in a friendly tone/manner Am sure that many may have strong views etc on mainstream media but I just don't get this ott reply at all Why bang on about a 5 second quote/clip from a bbc4 c4 documentary 12 8 or so years ago If you want to bring up such serious topics then surely a separate thread be better rather than throwing it into this mean nothing thread/request in such a way?
