  4. The BBC has an interesting piece in its news section Titled Frank Gossner: The archaeologist of African vinyl clipped from the article A German DJ has become an archaeologist of funk. He travels around Africa searching for old, unwanted and often moulding LPs, gets them reissued and then plays them at his gigs around the world. One way Gossner located records was by making posters with the brightly coloured covers of the albums he was looking for - plus large "WANTED!" signs and his contact information. the story has cropped up before but it looks like the bbc has put it together well here's the link https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-26654516 the guys blog https://voodoofunk.blogspot.co.uk/

  6. Posted up in the forums yesterday a request from the BBC asking for dancers for the 26th March in London for 'The One Show' The full request can be read via the source forum link below While nothing shows up yet on just what the focus of this segment is going to be, guess this news (and recent word about a bbc4 project) does sort of show that the mainstreams interest in northern soul isn't fading just yet...

  8. maybe, maybe not comment was just to do with what I said earlier.. I tend to disagree with your view that event promotion is better on fb thats all
  9. nah not with my lazy mouth someone walking past "give us a look at your box"
  10. wasn't there a cd or mayve a dvd or something with a free scale cardboard model that you make a few years back ?
  11. yep as said understand what you are saying , but with facebook you are not spreading the word outside whatever you use on facebok while on here you are spreading the word wider and further cheers mike
  12. yep Tim can do that for a trial run but if possible would like to do it with a couple of stand up members up for looking after it (eg can keep a eye on things - nothing major just keep it ticking) drop us a pm Tim (and/or anyone else who be up for looking after it)
  13. yep understand what you saying, but just don't really agree with your bit about facebook being the better option for spreading the word
  14. the other Peter is a longtime member, though he hasn't been on for 16 months though, so a chance in a couple of months... maybe
  15. tend to disagree with the view that event promotion is better on fb, ok for your aunties birthday maybe or a nite out at the pub with your mates but from what seen of fb promotion nowadays it all seems like ever decreasing circles how many does your event reach on there? think a few earlier comments in this thread are telling on here most events that make max use of the features seem to be doing great plus of course as the comments are all independently moderated then theres none of that facebook feel all imo of course mike
  16. the name came from the record room side of life been a long time since first used it but would say it was meant to be a reflection of the record room vibe

  19. Posting this as am just a bit weary of reading people trying to make out that it is some sort of downer on this site just because some members also use facebook Its not,.. Soul Source is doing just fine In fact Soul Source in 2014 is doing better than it has ever done! January saw us having its most active month ever, that's the most active since 1997 Stats such as views and unique visitors have hit new levels for January 2014 Members per month logging in are up and the same for members posting and the amount of new topics being posted up is also up, The ongoing Inactive members campaign has so far has meant that over 200+ inactive members have come back to the site after a lengthy abscence And both the months of Jan and Feb 2014 have seen some of the highest figures for new members signing up with over 450+ new members so far in 2014 A quick look at the many features on offer here and how the members use them should tell you more and put the ott negative posts and claims seen elsewhere in place Myself I do find that facebook is good at certain things and bad for others and am sure that it is a similar experience for many members on here and I bet you could say the same about soul source Anyway, apologies for the interruption, just felt a need to post after reading some late nite claims.and some posts on facebook Thanks go to all the members and all the mods here on Soul Source for getting us off to such a vibrant foot in 2014! Thanks and regards mike admin/owner of Soul Source and of course if you are on facebook and want to keep up with the real world when chating to your mother-in law then I do know of a page.. click here

Thought 'Ray' was a good film also, but its not the way I'd like to remember Ray Charles.. and I think this film on James Brown will be very much the same, do you know what I mean...
