  7. Yet another sad loss Thanks to John Smith for passing on the sad news. Wilson "Willie Tee" Turbinton............ died yesterday of colon cancer .........This is truly sad news. Here in the UK, Willie was best known for his solo outings "Walking Up a One Way Street, "Thank You John" (both massive mod club hits), his NS scene anthems "First Taste of Hurt", "Teasin You", "Teasin You Again" (+ a couple of his later cuts for United Artists & Capitol) AND with funk fans for the Gaturs outings. He toured here playing both funk & NS scene clubs and I got to meet him twice. He was a truly modest guy with a great extended family. .....The posting (on a blues list) that announced his passing..... Keyboardist, songwriter and producer Wilson "Willie Tee" Turbinton, an early architect of New Orleans funk and soul, died today of colon cancer. He was 63. Mr. Turbinton secured his place in New Orleans music legend by producing and co-writing the Wild Magnolias' self-titled 1973 debut. That landmark recording and the subsequent "They Call Us Wild," also produced by Mr. Turbinton, largely introduced the Mardi Gras Indians' distinctive street beats and chants to the world. "In a city of treasures, he was rich in taste and tradition," said record producer and longtime friend Leo Sacks. "The depth, breadth, scope and command of his piano playing were profound. He helped shape the sound of New Orleans for more than four decades." Mr. Turbinton's passing follows that of his older brother, modern jazz saxophonist Earl Turbinton, on Aug. 3. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Martin Turbinton; a sister, Joyce Turbinton Gill; a daughter, Racquel Turbinton Bruno; and two grandchildren. A funeral is scheduled for Sept. 22 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m., with a service to follow. forum thread can be read here https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=55672

  10. October 19th is the date of an one off special event being held to mark the Kent Record Labels 25th Anniversary The artists lined up for the night are Maxine Brown, Tommy Hunt, Mary Love, The Flirtations and Winfield Parker The djs for the night are Ian Clark, Mick Smith and Ady C The venue is The Forum, 9-17 Highgate Road, Kentish Town, London Ticket details: www.seetickets.com (0870 150 0044) It was 1982, the mod revival was in full swing, disaffected Northern Soul fans were turning away from pop stompers and second rate disco and Ace Records had just acquired the Kent & Modern 60s soul catalogues. Ady Croasdell and Randy Cozens’ 6TS Rhythm & Soul Society was entertaining packed crowds at London’s legendary 100 Club and discerning soul fans demanded records inspired by the original 60s soul ethos. Who would save them? Would it be a bird, would it be a plane or would it be Harboro Horace? You guessed it, the bird and plane were unavailable so HH knocked together “For Dancers Only” 16 tracks of pure 60s black soul beat. It caught the zeitgeist or hit the groove (depending on your school attendance record), sold by the carrier bag full and kept Horace out of the pubs for hours at a time while he worked on the imaginatively titled “For Dancers Also” sequel. We then had “Footstompers”, “Floorshakers”, “Right Back Where We Started From”, “Club Soul” and “Brainstormers”; solo LPs from Jackie Wilson, Maxine Brown, Chuck Jackson, The Impressions and Tommy Hunt. Just short of 100 slabs of 12” vinyl in all. Then it was the silver discs of “Dave Godin’s Deep Soul Treasures”, “Okeh; A Northern Soul Obsession”, “Rare Collectible & Soulful”, “Northern Soul’s Classiest Rareties”, “Mod Jazz”, “New Breed R&B”, and big selling solo items from James Carr, Irma Thomas, Dyke & The Blazers, Doris Duke and Eddie & Ernie. Not forgetting the good old fashioned 7” vinyl Town and City singles. So 25 years later we reckon we’re owed a BIG party and we’ve arranged an authentic 60s soul revue in London Town about half a mile from where we started. The fabulous talents of Maxine, Tommy, Mary Love (who kicked off our first ever CD), The Flirtations aka The Gypsies and Baltimore’s own Winfield Parker will entertain and amaze you, with a top live big soul band playing their hearts out behind. It’s an incredible old venue, similar to the Apollo where these shows used to happen. Original 6TS DJ and Kent cover artist Ian Clark is coming out of retirement especially for this night and along with Mick Smith and Ady C, we’ll dance through to the early hours. Maybe Harboro Horace will turn up too!

  17. why are you posting it as a go at the site where does it say anything "negative should be dealt with the promoter in question in private" do you honestly think that we still be around today if had a narrow and unworkable policy like you are making out ask please dont confuse members views with the actual site policy if do have any concerns then please post them up in members feedback , then at least aware of them and at best can clear them up
  18. yep, thats my line of thinking, and thats why I posted just to point out that there is another thread going about the actual nighter
  19. there is a thread in lookbacks about the nighter mentioned in first post /index.p...mp;#entry575591 can ask that all posts regarding the nighter go there
  20. yep as few have said, think its a good time to shut this was a general sort of q, and think its run its course as always if wanna discuss anything just start up a new thread myself think was a interesting one and while never expect gonna solve problems via threads like this, think its been a sort of postive thing and say thanks for all who contributed and made it that will close in 5 mins
  21. Recently may have read the reports of Levine in the last issue of manifesto trying to rewrite history Seems this month in part 2 of his interview he's now trying to rewrite soul source moderating decsions No desire to make the past closure of an ex-member account an issue or whatever, I had considered this matter closed, however as what levine said is pure out and out sh*te and as published in the real world have got no other option but to put the record straight manifesto quote "Who do these people on Soul Source think they are any way ? How can they ban someone like Simon White simply for standing his ground ? Simon doesn't just paint one side, he tries to see it from all points of view and to ban him I think is heinous just because he doesn't agree with the majority of anally retentive anarchic puritanical posters on there" meanwhile in the real world simon whites account was closed as per below /index.php?showtopic=47283 latest in a long line of sh*t stirring against this site by levine have to laugh
  22. its also on a lp by them with few other covers as well think its had a cd release , so maybe more info ref date etc off the sales sites sure there's a few clips as well of some tracks
  23. yep, but what was on about was in reply to the "wind up" suggestion , as in only ones wound up were those who took it in local way not general.. maybe
  24. as said when started thought it was a interesting topic "overkill is it a problem ?" was meant in a general uk or further afield sense was suprised by some taking it down the local road ( maybe thats why some got wound up? ) just as was suprised at some of pms got no apoligies, i just make sure I put "general" "uk" or such in next time for those who didnt catch on
