  9. As you may be aware its been said... "the fact that no Cameo- Parkway material has been released on CD by Abkco is one of the longest-running mysteries of the CD era" Well seems that things are changing with a release in May in USA of a 4 boxed set entitled Cameo Parkway 1957-1967 Producer Jody Klein said on the Ice web magazine that "This catalog "has a diffuse artist roster. Some recordings were made for Cameo, and a great many were licensed from other small labels, so the whole process of locating sources was extremely difficult. It required a lot of man- and woman-hours." "Later this year we'll follow the box with individual artist reissues on Bobby Rydell, the Orlons, the Dovells, Dee Dee Sharp, ? and the Mysterians, and the Tymes. These will have 25 tracks or so apiece. We can't mention any specifics, but we do have plans for digging further into the archives. This label was rich enough that the product should continue to flow, now that the faucet is open." Can read the full article here https://www.icemagazine.com/stories/217/cameo.shtm The listing is below, ishould be interesting to see what future releases come out. Tracks of Disc 1: 1. 15. Think anyone could be hard pushed to give the definitive history of soul, espically going by the many different takes have on it on here going by what read earlier on here, does seem to me that should be better quality than the vh1/mtv sort of 5 min things see now and again Here's what was published on soul source a couple of weeks ago by some involved in it Just to let you know that the Beeb will be transmitting Soul Deep from Saturday 7th May on BBC2 at 9pm. There are six programmes in the series, roughly broken down as:- Prog 1: Rhythm & Blues Prog 2: Gospel to Soul Prog 3: Detroit and Chicago (largely Motown and Chess soul but with some Curtis) Prog 4: Southern Soul Prog 5: Funk Prog 6: Contemporary R&B We helped out on the Southern one and I have seen a rough copy of the show and it is good with interviews, contemporary footage including unseen film of James Carr singing Love Attack which we put them on to and some re-enactments of the last hours of Otis Redding and the life of James Carr. The producer and crew are the same people behind the gospel and country series already shown on BBC2 so it is excellent quality. Best wishes Colin Keeping Soul Alive Limited

  22. Thanks to Grapevine have got a decent clip of this unissued track from Labeat master tape! Heard Keith Money playing last week it at the most excellent just gone Dublin event and have to say it pricked up me ears, and after playing this clip a few more times, it certainly does take on the form of a "gets even better with each hear" killer track Believe 4 djs playing this track out and about, Keith Money , Ady C and... two more (ack the other two names have gone spongy at moment will add once 100% sure right) Seems its due to be released in future along with other unissued tracks on a forthcoming Labeat CD, so keep a eye on the Grapevine website and of course on here for info on that release https://www.grapevine-soul.com clip is up in the "rare, indemand, talked about" section of the soul source sound sbit here /index.p...cmd=si&img=5367

  24. just threw clip up in the gallery here /index.p...y&cmd=sc&cat=81 along with a couple of other harvey averne tracks their version of "wishing and hoping" (prefer-this) and also an instru called the word this is down as a lennon/mcartney tune, often wonder what/who did the orig of this - anyone any pointers?
  25. had to smile at the use of this term its used in a article on a sweet floral albion site TOY TOWN SOUL: Those tracks once played at the Wigan Casino in the second-half of the '70s but which fell out of favour with the Northern soul scene's snobbish reaction against white pop-stompers and a return to black-only US soul, often provide the richest vein for this magical sub-genre. The Northern Soul scene was always way ahead of psych collectors in unearthing those golden Brit-pop nuggets. It is also interesting to take note of the sounds on these pre-1967 pop-soul tracks and to recognise the influence of such material on the toy-town pop of 1967 and 1968. Other good examples of toytown soul/pop are, Sue Lynne - 'Don't Pity Me', Paula Parfitt - 'Love Is Wonderful', Five And A Penny - 'You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies' and Adrienne Posta's version of 'Something Beautiful'. Adrienne takes a fine mid-tempo US soul original (by Margaret Mandolph) and transforms it into a twee and chirpy Brit-pop dancer. What it loses in genuine, serious soulfulness it more than makes up in happy tweety swinging poppiness. In fact, it is a genre distinction of toytown soul that it lacks overt seriousness, that the soul element be minimised in favour of out-and-out pop..... full article in which above is clipped can be found at the SWEET FLORAL ALBION SITE on this page https://homepage.ntlworld.com/marmaladeskies/sfa36.htm also pysch northern gets a mention on other page below *** IT'S ONLY A NORTHERN PSOUL, by Paul Hodges *** https://homepage.ntlworld.com/marmaladeskies/sfa22.htm
