  1. Wow! You'd flick that right out of your way in a sales box, it looks mental!
  2. You might have a point there Kev. Good on you for playing it!
  3. I've recently started selling off my collection in bits and bobs, just advertising here on SS and on Facebook, and have to say I've been surprised at what little haggling I've experienced. Maybe only two or three folk have asked if I take a lower price, and even then it's been really quite polite! I was braced for a shark attack of shrewd buyers, smelling the blood of a seller who has been off the scene for decades and out of touch with prices, but no. I even took to inviting "reasonable" offers in my last list - sold all 9 but with only one reduced price!
  4. Excuse me! It was Nelson Sanders and the Sulphate Cybermen, if you don't mind Gary... Nice to see some love for the track at last, don't recall it being too well received back in the day. The messheads were on it from the off but I don't think I stuck with it for too long. Don't think it was me you bought it off, I still have the copy I covered up and don't remember having a spare. Then again, I didn't remember selling Big Frank to Hosie fae Dundee, so if I can forget that I can forgot anything! I actually had it up for sale for £30 a couple months ago but no interest. Snakepit, m y man - where did you see it "listed"?
  5. I have a Mutt & Jeff but need to grade and price it up. Will PM ya ASAP, cheers
  6. *** Everything now sold. Many thanks to all who enquired and profuse apologies to those who did not receive a reply - flu, work and being inundated by the volume of enquiries messed up my brain - sorry guys... *** ***SOLD*** The Saints - Sun Don't Shine Everyday / I've Been Taken for A Ride - Kent demo - £60 (both sides of this much-loved double sider play loud and clear but look VG+, so there's a few bob off the Ex price) ***SOLD*** The Sheppards - Stubborn Heart / How Do You Like It - Mirwood - £140, both sides at least Ex condition (another wonderful double sider: 'SH' as good as Ernest Mosely, and 'HDYLI' an excellent dancer in it's own right that's getting due attention now) *** SOLD*** Jimmie Reed Jnr - I Ain't Going Nowhere - Mercury Ex £175 (won't be heartbroken of this doesn't sell, cherished it since hearing my first 'favourite' DJ play it, Gary Rushbrooke) *** SOLD *** George Blackwell - Mister Loser - Smoke looks VG++, plays a lound and clear Ex+ £70 (big sounding, brassy mid tempo fist pumper) ***SOLD*** Brilliant Korners - Three Lonely Guys - Modern demo, as with George Blackwell this looks VG++ but plays Ex. £150 *** SOLD*** The Quotations - I Don't Have To Worry - Di Venus Ex £150 great group Northern favourite at Allanton back in the day *** SOLD ***The New Wanderers - This Man In Love - Ready Ex £375 pure, joyous, uptempo goodness ***SOLD*** Sammy King - Your Old Stand By - Marathon Ex/Ex+ £200 (did this New Orleans rarity ever get the attention it deserved?) *** SOLD*** The Dynamics - You Make Me Feel Good - RCA demo £45 (fine mid tempo that geting noticed again, this copy has seen a few campaigns over the years and looks VG+, but plays Ex. Still, that's enough to discount the price. 'Lights Out' on the flip is terrific deep, too) Terms: Bidding - please PM me but also note on the sales thread there's a PM on the way. Prices - while I'm sure my prices are reasonable, I might be open to offers on some titles, so ask, it won't do any harm to (unless you're being really silly) Shipping - £8 for UK deliveries over £50, £3 for under. For overseas destinations, please ask. Payment - PayPal only, and must be made on my acceptance of your offer. If you want a wee bit of time to pay then just ask, please don't assume I'll hold a record without prior arrangement. While that just sounds like common sense to most, unfortunately I have lost £00's and wasted hours in chasing up non payment in the last few months. If you don' t pay immediately or as agreed, I'll go back to the 2nd guy who wanted it (if there is one). Returns - no quibble, full refund on the safe return of any record, where you disagree with my condition grading or if I haven't mentioned an obvious fault. I'm making a point of posting photos of all sales now, so you can see the condition of the labels before you buy. I won't accept returns because of a label's appearance, or because you've decided you don't really like the record after all, or some other daft reason. Ok, that formal stuff out the way. Thanks for looking, hope you find something of interest! Cheers Alan

Depending on the record I might make a token reduction but I'm not going to halve or third a price. Add £8 for packing and special delivery on order over £50, plus 4% PayPal. Thanks for looking, cheers! Alan
  8. Young un's of all tribes and none these days often refer to a sound they like as a banger, regardless of genre or tempo. For whatever reason it seems to have crept into Northern lexicon as a replacement for stomper, which by general consensus was used to describe tracks that were either fast or otherwise ooomph-laden (a certified madman roaring out gutbucket vocals - Jimmy Robbins, for instance; loud, blaring horns; badass lyrics...) Personally, I define a banger as a record that is both fast and ooomph-laden. Then there's Aggro Soul, which is pretty much my defination of a banger...
  9. Yes yes yes, that's the bugger! Cheers mate, that was doing my head in!!
  10. Someone? Anyone? I've had this in my head all day, big voiced male banger "I'm gonna hang on in there girl" - a Guy or Keb spin, great intro...
  11. Somebody please out me out of my misery and tell me what this is.

  14. Thank you. Help yourself!
  15. A wee bump for this, most set sale still available and the auction closes at 9pm tonight. Don't be shy, fire in!
  16. More good ‘n rare 60’s Northern originals from my collection: Larry Davis – I’ve Been Hurt So many Times – Kent (demo) Ex £380 Tony Diamond – Don’t Turn Away – Blue Rock (demo) VG++ £130 The Entertainers – Love In My Heart – Symbol Ex £135 Bobbie Smith – Walk On Into My Heart – American Arts (demo, black writing) VG+, styrene scuffs and some discolouration of vinyl but decent sound £175 The O’Jays – No Time For You – Imperial (black issue) Ex £65 *** SOLD *** The Ascots – Anytime – Mir-A-don Ex+ £400 *** SOLD *** George Blackwell - Mr Loser - Smoke VG+, plays Ex £100 Kell Osborne – You Can’t Outsmart A Woman - Loma (demo) Ex+ has a tiny scratch with the groove (not across) which is audible for a nano second. Otherwise looks wonderful and it plays loud, crisp and clear £75 And two current indemanders for auction: Delegates of Soul – I’ll Come Running Back – Uplook splendid condition, looks and plays Ex. I got this 3 weeks before Butch uncovered his, so there’s some authentic, 1980’s c/u sellotape-residue in the run out groove! Label is spotless too, not one of those water damaged things that turned up later. Bids north of £550 please. The High Keys – Living A Lie – Verve light blue demo. VG++/Ex- a landmark record for me, the first really 'rare' record I bought as a youth, my stepping up from the staples all junior collectors started out with. Big, loud, crisp, clear sound. Bids from £400, if you please. Auction ends Wednesday 6th July, no sale if my stated minimums are not met. Add £8 for Special Delivery & packing, then 4% PayPal charge if not paying as a gift. Many thanks for the sales, encouragement and good vibes so far!
  17. PM'd you Guv'nor...
  18. I'm trying to sell my copy and a potential buyer has asked me if it is the pink issue. I've had this record for donkey's years and always regarded the lable colour as a kind of dirty white, so I told the guy and we left it at that. Then my missues walks in the room, waves it under a light and declares it to be a really light, faded pink colour. Do you think we are talking about the same record after all? Mine is definately an issue, there's no reference to demo/promo at all on the label, and it's not faded through sunlight or water damage, as the text is clear and sharp. What to do? edit to add: I've just posted this query up on Rare Soul Talk on FB and 2 guys have already said they had a pink-ish one just like mine...

  20. Tentatively dipping a toe in the murky waters of sales after a few years off. 60's Northern Originals and all issues, unless otherwise stated. 21. My worst case saw the lid of my box fall on the one tune sitting up. Sitting on my bedroom floor with my girlfriend, box right in front of us, lid leaning back on the side of my bed: for no apparent reason the lid just started to close, seemingly in slow motion, only a few inches away from me but I was transfixed. I heard the crack. Took it out, one clean break halfway through and under the label. I thought of blaming my girlfriend, saying she must have nudges the box by accident, but I couldn't, she was horrified too, not least of all 'cos she knew how much I loved the record and how pleased I was to have tracked it down only a few months earlier. I have a sense of humour that can seem me laugh at most things but it took at least a decade before I could raise a wry smile at the irony that the record in question was Kenny Wells - Isn't It Just A Shame!
  22. I can't get my head around this business of boots going for anything more than a few quid. There's no kudos in owning a boot and you can't get away with playing one out (I presume)? If someone simply wants to have the tune available to listen to whenever they want then it'll surely be available on a compilation CD or YouTube? Weird.
  23. In the wake of Terry Callier's sad passing, a mate - not a soulie - has asked if I know of another version, mid 70's vibe? He has it on an old, anonymous tape and it's doing his head in! Any suggestions? Ta!
  24. That's a cracking pic. If it wasn't for the pub, I think it looks like could have been taken at any point in the last 40 years. Was it normal for geezers to wear their Ben Sherman's untucked?
