Cool Or Fool
- Seal Trbute
Add Jennifer Holliday to that list and this creditable version: Plus there are several Jamaican versions too.- Any Sampled Tunes
Just Fine? (That's not a qualitative comment, it's a suggested MJB single from last year )- Seal Trbute
Released on 10-Nov (according to hmv.com). All well-known classics, I'm wondering whether to take a punt on this one - Seal has a more-than-decent voice, though I've heard none of these. Should I buy or not? 1. Change Is Gonna Come 2. I Can't Stand The Rain 3. It's A Man's Man's Man's World 4. Here I Am (Come And Take Me) 5. I've Been Loving You Too Long 6. It's Alright 7. If You Don't Know Me By Now 8. Knock On Wood 9. I'm Still In Love With You 10. Free 11. Stand By Me 12. People Get Ready- Ja Vs Uk

She released TOUCH ME BABY b/w CREEPIN' (IN MY DREAMS) in 1974 ~ a Johnny Bristol connection, IIRC - did he write/produce or both TMB? She had a couple of later tunes LET IT FLOW and READ ME RIGHT...- Any Sampled Tunes
While I have the Trammps' LEGENDARY ZING L.P., I can't remember how "Rubber Band" goes, so presumably wouldn't have spotted ol' 50 cent sampling it anyway- Any Sampled Tunes
I think I got it right (I just googled for "Carrie Lucas" and "Armand") https://www.discogs.com/release/773200- Any Sampled Tunes
Got it! Carrie Lucas ~ DANCE WITH YOU (1977) I think. So Solar not Salsoul. Unless I've got it wrong (again) >->- Any Sampled Tunes
...I can't think of it - I've hunted around my music database (I have the tune), but I can't figure it out... I thought it might have been a First Choice song, but nothing jumps out at me- Any Sampled Tunes
It's a Salsoul tune, Jayne ~ I'm trying to retrieve the details from my fading memory...- Any Sampled Tunes
Yep. It was Sheila & B. Devotion's SPACER (1979) ~ a fine blend of Euro Disco and American chic (as in Chic!) ...and I like the Alcazar version too, though it's a tad speeded up...- Any Sampled Tunes
Thanks once again, Tony - I was tempted to put in an "over to 'Rouncey'" comment in my previous post, but didn't feel it right to presume... While I have one Sylvia L.P. (LAY IT ON ME ~ U.S. Vibration VI131 - 1977) and 2 singles and some of her productions, I have nothing by M&S... Was "Sylvian Van der Pool Robinson" her actual real name?- Any Sampled Tunes
Although I don't prefer it to the original, I enjoyed hearing WISH I (by Jem), which samples frequently the guitar intro (was that Ernest Ranglin, I wonder?) to Dotty & Bonny's DEAREST - a Duke Reid-produced Ska ballad from 1964. In turn, I believe that this DEAREST was a version of a 50s Doowop tune, though who sang it escapes me- Any Sampled Tunes
...and here's the soundtrack list... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0139239/soundtrack- Any Sampled Tunes
Well, if I remember (when I'm home at the week-end), I'll have a go at Chanelle's ONE MAN, Tony - I have it on the "Now Dance 89" L.P. I suppose I might as well bash MY LOVE IS FREE as well, while I'm dusting off some vinyl- Any Sampled Tunes
Thanks for the info, Jayne - I don't have "Salsoul Nugget" (If I remember, when I'm back home at the week-end, I'll fish out this BEST OF SAMPLED CD and see if it mentions this tune). FWIW, my favourite tune on the 10% L.P. is MY LOVE IS FREE, which just beats off EVERYMAN and the title track...- Any Sampled Tunes
Which song (who) sampled EVERYMAN, Jayne? I originally have this on the "Ten Per Cent" L.P., which I bought for DM 2 (50p) in a long-gone chain of shops called "Kaufhalle" in Frechen, Germany in February 1980 - funny how one can remember useless info like that - I also bought Joe Simon's "Sounds of Simon" (Spring - 1970?) and Luther's "This Close To You" (Cotillion - 1977) albums on the same day, for the same price. Thanks - Joe- Maxine Brown
I have this on a Pye Disco Demand single (DDS117 ~ the B side to ONE IN A MILLION) and on Kent's DANCING 'TIL DAWN L.P. (KENT026) - I don't even know if these two are the same - I ought to check - thanks for the tip- Backing Tracks
The Chi-lites OH GIRL was re-done (on B.R.C. ~ BRC109) by the Promises and re-titled OH BOY - same backing track and same year.- Any Sampled Tunes

The flame suit is on... I certainly loved the energy of RIDE ON TIME ~ puts Loleatta Holloway's LOVE SENSATION into the shade - it sounds plodding by comparison...and I'm a big fan of Soul-Disco in general and Salsoul in particular.- The Dreaded 'skinhead' Reggae Sound
...that's what I meant, Pete - i.e. the original rhythm tracks. Some dislike them and think they're an easy cop-out. But a good rhythm's a good rhythm- Now I Never Knew That
I'm currently reading both Graham Poll's (football ref - aka "The Troll from Tring") ~ "Seeing Red" and Radio DJ Johnnie Walker's bio or auto-bio. I'll report in if either also claim to have a copy of DO I LOVE YOU? - Seal Trbute
