  10. Yes Linda....I do remember it...esp when it 'alternated' Allnighters with the 'Torch'........always a fave place of mine...great sounds....and a killa atmosphere. There will be a few on here who have fond memories of the place I.m sure. Nice to know you still remember the 'old place' even from the US AND after all these years Its a snooker/pool hall nowadays btw
  11. Interesting thread H. It does make you wonder 'individual's' motivations for buying records. Maybe 'peer group' acceptance. We all have a circle of friends on the scene with whom we talk records and other assorted b*****ks...maybe the people who pay big money for bootlegs,do so, to garner favour amongst their 'group'. .ie 'Just bought a cracking record (be it Duke Browner, Salvadores or any other boot of your choice).....and it cost me over a ton !!.. .if that particular 'peer group'....has no experience/knowledge/desire of collecting originals.....then instant 'WOW 'factor ...this also further perpetuates the notion (esp to those just starting out ) that to collect 'Northern Soul'...it costs £££'s per record....... Just a thought..

  16. Good point ..well made Mick...and its exactly these 'type' of clubs pre Casino Allnighters....that 'unearthed' gems in their playlists......apart from the obvious Torch.Wheel, Cats, Blue Orchid...etc etc etc etcs....the DJ's from the 'lesser known clubs improvised and created playlists from a 'smaller pool' than what we enjoy today...................... I stumbled across these two the other day....which I first heard at one of the smaller less well known venues....probably NOT allnighter fodder nowadays (but they possibly got spins at Whitworth st)......but pleasant enough Pretty Red Balloons..........Rosetta Hightower Clarence Carter.....Looking for a Fox
