Maybe this depends on what people call the North and South.. For many up North its below Watford i guess but Rugby would be South for many of them real ooooooooop North folk.. Even the 100 club is helped by Northern folk who moved down South/ London at some point.. Does it matter if the South aint got so many niters??? enough good soul nights and how many folk would stay to the end anyway.. As Toby says, a 4am seems pretty good but a later licence could be sorted if folk want it.. On the whole we have people getting long in the tooth and 4am is late enough i guess.. No point starting a topic about North V South and then talking about a scooter rally event really.. I can't comment as i stopped going late 80s to these events, it was soul first and scooters second and i did not like how the dancefloor was swamped with beer, blood, spit and dead bodies at times , plus the music on offer was not what i wanted... There is a North/ North divide with regards to the oldies scene and the more forward thinking night too... We will see a dramatic change with regards to the niter scene in the not too distant future, many folk who aint spring chickens will not be able to sustain a whole night and some good younger crowd have come through but not in enough numbers to keep the scene as big as it is now... There will always be a underground soul scene and for that i am happy, don't care too much if its 40 people in a bar or 300 in an all niter, as long as we get our fix of soul.. Different game for the big promoters though,they will be chasing the ever dwindling crowd... It will be a brave person to risk cash up front and hope to make a return on there money..

A little bit more too it than that... Some djs just have that extra special something at times, its a thing you can't always put into words... You can give the same paint to ten people but you will not get the Picasso from all.. How many times have i heard the same record played by different djs, sometimes it can sound fantastic in a thought out set and other times it can be like a wet fart in a lift...

Things you aint proud of .. Don't worry.. Many of us have had to do tricks on lorry drivers in the service station for a free lift to niters.... Its all part of the weekend fun.. Many people ask the same questions about films/ plays, they did not do this and they did not do that.. How can you fit all the experiences of folk into 90mins... Not possible..

Yes indeed.. I go to more small rare soul events and they don't all use the mic like the bigger events and all niters... The mic is like making love.. Sometimes you like to be vocal and tell your partner whats going on .... Other times you like to enjoy in silence and think shut the fu"k up..

This is another topic thats been done a few times i guess.. Like to have a Mic sometimes and say a few words that can add to the spot.. Other times i just like to play the tunes and talk to folk as they come up to the deck.. Don't like or want any set rules, just take it as it comes and keep the mic away from the djs who act like bingo callers

Yes indeed... Good post Matt.. I would like to meet up with all my mates of a weekend but they are split into different cults now... Maybe thats just a thing about getting older, you just find what you want and go with that.. As i have said before, i like a good mix of sounds but that kind of place aint to everones liking... Another sub group are the internet soul club.... Many on this forum just get the passion from logging on and don't attend soul nights.. Just do what you wanna do and try not to think too much about what others are doing.. Waste of breath/ time and energy.. Peace x

Interesting reply from the couple in question... If i was them i would make known the people who did the dirty on them and caused all the grief.. Then people could maybe leave them alone and question others who play the dirty game.... I would name them in an instant.. Just a thought..

Very good point Phil... There are some very good scripts and writers out there wanting to bring the underground soul scene to the big screen, lets hope they do get the chance.. I know some on the scene don't want anything to do with the media and all that but when/if its done right it could be something to blow away all music films that have gone before... Will go see this film before i pass comment...

By a test do they mean something thats pretty close to the finished project, could they/ have they got time/ cash to do something quite different.... Anymore feedback from people who have seen the test screening???
