Ian Levine, Motorcity, Centre City, Blackpool Mecca, And Swons
Thats really nice to hear Ian... I think we all would wish that a person would say that about us.. .. That makes you a true freind indeed but don't mean that others can't think a different way, you are doing the my way or the by-way again, thats what gets peoples backs up.. I and many others aint ever met Kev, we can only go by his actions when he first came onto this site.. He was not very nice at all, as you put it... You see my friend i don't do all that hate thing like some on this forum.. I may not like or respect a person but the hate thing is just a step too far for me... I just stay the hell away from any of these people.. I respect Pete Smith but i bet with would disagree on so much with regards to music alone...

A brit award or anything like that don't matter a jot on here Ian.. Your songs will be treated like all other soul songs we talk about.. Some will think they are nice and some will think they are sub standard.... I am sure there are some who have an axe to grind with you and would not give you any credit but many others are just judging each record that you post up... I can see a good production but still not like the outcome and thats the case with a good few of your choices, they don't make me wanna rush for the off button but they don't grab me by the balls either... Thats what i want with music, something to give that feeling we can't always put into words.. Maybe some real depth in the voice, despair, anger, raw power and much more...A lot of these productions just pass me by.. It was the same with so much of the Acid Jazz stuff in the 90s, quite liked a good bit of that at the time but it was here today gone tomorrow for me with many of those tunes... I picked up a record a few years ago and did not know it was one of your productions before i had played it a few times, it sounded pretty good in the small bars that we played at.. "Half a man", not heard it anot sure in what box i have it now, not been played in a long while... Can we have a soundclip of that, would like to see if i still like it.. With regards to a lot of your music.......Don't hate them but don't rate them.. And i aint got a closed mind.. regards Steve

Maybe Ian could take a chill pill and just contribute to the site as a whole.. I don't care if a person is one of the so called godfathers of the soul scene or the shit house cleaner, i just care that they are on here for the love of black soul music in whatever form( well, maybe not 2 step) ... The god complex will not go down well with members.. Mr Roberts came on here playing that game and got shot down in flames... If you use words like closed ears to any who don't like what you have to offer then you are gonna get some stick for sure... Its been said before.. Some of us may like the odd bit of stuff thats been produced and think the rest should be flushed down the drain, its a forum for all people with different tastes for sure... There are people with closed minds for sure to anything new but many others who like soul music in many aspects Ady Croasdell and others with a rich history on the soul scene can come on the forum as a whole and just be a punter like the rest of us.. It does not seem to be the case for people like Ian Levine, Mr Goldsoul and that bloke who plays cds in a shopping center in Wigan... Why do they find it so hard to play ball on soul source???? i think i and many others know the answer... They could have all joined the forum and just blend in with everyone else.. Maybe posting in different sections and just cutting the breeze.. To have respect you got give respect.... To the big shot promoter or the shit house cleaner...

Northern Soul For The Middle Aged Crowd
I could just see me tucking into my apple pie and custard and then on comes Eddie Parker.. Custard goes tits as i rush for the floor, just about to hit the dancefloor and then my little beeper goes off, its a message from the soul police at headquarters, its the lab top and boots division... Its says warning warning, booooooooot in the house, leave the building now, this venue will self destruct in 5 mins...

Its our quest then Rachel to fing the holy grail... If anybody can come up with the flyer then please pass it on to me or put it on this posting... As Jane said, about 3 years ago sounds about right..

Northern Soul For The Middle Aged Crowd
There was no going onto another venue, thats the point, it was all in the same room, chicken in a basket, a bottle of wine and then straight into aspin and backdrop.. I bet they had more than talc on the floor I was more interested to know about the flyer/photo of the cooked chicken going round on two turntables , was it just a dream i had or for real... Don't know anyone that was at these events, were they busy nights????

Northern Soul For The Middle Aged Crowd
Was talking to a mate and we got onto the subject of the different events on this scene of ours.. We talked about promotions and the ammount of different events on offer... Can anyone tell me if they were at any of them northern soul dinner and dance events?? how did it go down???? was it chicken in a basket/candles and soft piped music or pasta baked in speed and stompers all the way did i once see a flyer with a chicken on the record decks for some dinner/soul event?? or was it some warped mad dream after a weekend of no sleep.. As we see from the events page and flyers on tables, its a really fragmented scene, i like that aspect of it in some ways.. It means we can get so many different experiences on our travels around the uk and overseas... Will promoters continue to take into account the ever changing moods of the soul crowd??? with regards to age and the tempo and style of the music.... Its Monday, lets have a debate .. Anyway back to that chicken on the record decks , please tell me it was for real or i will have to see the shrink to get it out of my head.. Is northern soul bingo the next big thing along with Northern soul line dancing/ care homes/ theme cafe etc etc etc.. Will we see them soul patches stitched on our slippers As i have said before.. This scene is a broad church indeed...

First record i ever had aged about 5 from my dads collection and still in my play box today... Quality indeed.. The price is gonna stay steady i guess as the other side was a big hit and charted i think... The kind of fantastic overlooked record because it was always so cheap(not rare) i guess..
