Haven't done any all nighters in the last 6 months due to health reasons. So what have I missed in terms of tunes? Whats getting played much more now than wasn't a year ago? Any sound files would be appreciated... My interest in this was sparked when a mate was flicking through my record box and pointed out that Syng McGowan - Loneliness Is A Pleasure has increased in value quite a bit recently and is now (after 25 years) a big tune. I was shocked, is he right? Another mate was flicking through the box and also picked out that one, noting that Chalky was playing the flip side - Just In The Nick Of Time at Lifeline. Its on the slow side but absolute quality. Whilst not wishing to massage Chalkys ego too much maybe the record has increased in price due to the flip side being played. Thanks in advance Col ps I'm going to give Syng McGowan a spin tonight in Aldershot, so expect the price to plummet soon.

Its really good to hear nobody bitching about The Futures & Gayle Adams. I always knew that you, the chattering classes, were way too hard on both those little gems.

Me, on a wind up? No, just a little gentle teasing really. Both records are of course 'just fantastic soul records' But it has to be said that the sixties record is "like a cake thats been left out in the rain......and you'll never get that recipe again." Whereas the seventies tune is "a souffle, thats still rising"

But, it sounds like it was recorded in a broom cupboard. Clearly thats not right.

The following similarly titled Four Tops records when compared together prove almost conclusively that seventies soul is far superior to sixties soul. Four Tops - Can't Seem To Get You Out My Mind - the sixties track, has everything that a good northern soul record should have. But its strangled by the 4/4 beat. Soul in a straight jacket. So dated. Four Tops - Just Can't Get You Out Of My Mind - the seventies track. Move on a few years & WOW what a tune. Much better orchestration & flowing vocals. Just shows you how much soul evolved in a decade. Case proven.
