Played Out Oldies
I know all of the above to be true. Very few people dress like that down south though. But the few that do happen to be really nice guys, so I find it impossible to be critical. Col.

Played Out Oldies
Hi Wayne Haven't seen much of you & Anita lately. Trust you are both well. BTW I'm assured these venues do exist around the Midlands area I don't think you would like them (something that you would actually have in common with Baz) Col.

Girl Don't Make Me Wait - Darryl Hall
Truly awful vocals, its no real surprise to me that this has been stuck in the vaults since the 60's. The real question for me is why anybody would choose to listen to it now? Col.

Diana Or Martha?
Always was Martha for those powerful sixties vocals. Although live wise her vocals went cabaret from the 70s onward. Never lied Ross's solo vocals. Bot nowdays prefer listening to those early Supremes sounds that we totally overlooked in the early days.

Culture, Sub-culture....or Not
Is or was northern soul a culture, sub-culture or not? I work with a lad that is adamant that hip-hop is a culture. So that got me thinking. The following I lifted from another board - “I don't know if music itself can be a culture, but it's certainly a facet of culture. I can't picture some one saying "I'm reggae", but its a part of Caribbean culture. Country music is a facet of american culture.” Assuming the above para to be correct maybe then northern soul is just a facet of a culture....but which one? Col.

Yate, Just A Distant Memory ?
- Big At The Casino Before Charting
Hi Jo Thanks for reply. My info said it charted 74, was then re-issued late 70s after it went big at Wigan. Was told it appeared in charts second time round, but then completely disappeared from charts following week. But it has to be said I was very gullible in the 70s & accepted most things I was told. Regret to say have become a little more cynical as time has progressed. Col Did you really carry 200 copies of Freddie Jackson in stock?- Big At The Casino Before Charting
Don't know. Think it charted late 70s, but was removed/banned from from official charts as buying pattern was geographically unrepresentative ie. didn't sell enough around London & south.- Big At The Casino Before Charting
Not too sure about Love Ballad, but can remember Dave Evison pumping out 'On Broadway' Strange choice for him, but packed the floor.- Big At The Casino Before Charting
Following on from the Candi Staton thread I was wondering what other records went big at the Casino before nationally charting. Heres a few suggestions. I'm not sure if they are correct though. Coffee by Cassanova? Ghost In My House by R Dean Taylor Supership by George Benson? Col.- Texas, Anything There?
Texas now closed, try B&Q Col- Fist Aid For Soulies
