Following on from the sax thread - I can see there is a fair bit of fun to be had playing the sax or drums or whatever instrument over the top of a soul record. I've had a look at quite a few download sites & have found bugger all. Anybody care to help out by suggesting a couple of sites?

Just finished reading a book called the Soul Stylists. Its a bright & breezy read, mainly a collection of anecdotes covering the history of mods. Modernism started in the jazz clubs in Soho in the 50s and is still going today, apparently. The book has a chapter on Northern Soul - and gives the impression that the mods of the 60s evolved into the northern soulies of the 70s - and that evolved into the casuals of the 80s. I'm not too sure about that. Have always thought of the northern scene as a standalone scene not a progression of another scene. Whilst I appreciate that its not really a debate worth losing any sleep over - I was wondering what other people might think?

I didn't realise the scene had travelled so far up its own arse.

Iain was certainly enterprising. I helped him with transport to & from the market. If he had done well I got paid in cash.....otherwise it was records. He had a talent like nobody else I have ever met for finding records cheaply. Think he still does a bit of buying and selling, but hes not on the scene, but turned up at Bisley all-nighter a couple of years back with Jasmine, Mick Lloyd & Tracey.

Ive still got a couple of copies.......makes no sense now Think there is the odd article by yourself.

I organised the Egham all -nighter with another mate.......small world. Think Ians coaches ended afrer paying the driver Ken? in cash.......but he didn't pass the money on to the coach company. I'm not sure the driver actually knew the way to Wigan, remember setting off down the M4 once or twice. Also remember no heating on the coach in winter........ice on the inside of the windows.......nice!

Mmmm that reminds me of the T-Shirt that used the old Pepsi advert "lip smacking, thirst quenching, ace tasting, motivating, good buzzing, ... high walking, fast living, ever giving, cool fizzing, Pepsi", remember that? Can any one remember the Northernsoul version? "Hand clappin, friend makin, ?????? I'm reasonably sure that was a Dave Evison production.
