Golden World - (Label Of The Week)
Not sure if the mix is different - suspect not but then I have never compared the two. Think it's just label credits. 'Baby Boy' also done by Ja Neen Henry on Blue Rock - reputedly Andrea (Ja Neen) Henry. That one is produced by Andre Williams and arranged by Dale Warren Cheers Richard

Brilliant record - and elements of the song echoed in Bonnie Brisker on Magic City The Blue Rock version of 'WWYT' is by far the rarest though Cheers Richard

Label Of The Week - Can't Keep Up! ;-)
Hi Rog Can't keep up with label of the week mate These features don't seem to be getting the attention they did a while back - maybe time to shift to label of the fortnight or month? What do you reckon? Haven't the last half a dozen been Detroit labels? I can't keep up. Got loads of interesting Detroit stuff to post but it's all going too fast Cheers Richard

Grading 45S For Sale
Rod I'm really pleased to see this coming along well. Just some thoughts to add to the debate ... I have had several records over the past couple of weeks, including an expensive auction item from a UK main dealer, that were described as M- but which according to this grading system would be VG+ (and which I think I would grade as VG+). Although I much prefer the US grading system I wonder whether people would be prepared to follow a system without Excellent in it. That said, I think your VG++ could quite easily be the Excellent grade. In fact, using more than one + (plus) in association with VG can be confusing. Currently you have 4 x VG grades. Using a - (minus) on Excellent (I know you are not proposing this - but people use it a lot now) is a fudge as far as I'm concerned if also using VG+/VG++ as you can't easily operate both the plus and minus systems together (too many sub-grades defeats the purpose of lumping records into clear grades). Using a - (minus) when there is already a + (plus) grade available is basically a ploy for someone who has a decent VG record (VG+/VG++) to call it Excellent (E-) because it then sounds better and gets the record artificially into the higher category. The other key thing for me apart from a grading scale, and what I was promoting a few months ago, is a series of tips on how to grade. Unless you conclude that many people are dishonest graders (which I don't think they are) then it seems there is a lack of basic know-how about grading. Grading a record under a bright light (e.g. anglepoise lamp, kitchen unit halogen down-lighter, or in bright sunshine) shows all of the marks and imperfections to make a record VG+ when in ordinary flat artificial light (using the ceiling 'big light' in a room) it could possibly even be graded M- (exactly like the auction record I mentioned above). Also, do people know how to check for warps, dishing I wonder? Turn the record in its side and rotate, put it on a turntable and rotate it and look for lift (check both sides as the lift can be different). Could result in description such as 'slight edge warp with 4mm lift when rotated on turntable'. What about describing label stains, marks, writing? - this is usually described subjectively - 'minor', 'nothing serious' - rather than something like 'two lines of discoloured sticker residue from sticker removal approximately 4cm long across bottom of label covering artist and song title details'. On reflection, maybe I'm just too anal about this? Cheers Richard

Sidra - (Label Of The Week)
There are bootlegs on both the 'simple' and 'fancy' label designs. It's just that the label design changed at release 9009 to the 'fancy' label. Then, strangely enough, back to the old design for 9012 After that one it was different again. Cheers Richard

Tv Tonight - Motorcity's Burning - Bbc4 11Pm

Sidra - (Label Of The Week)
The globaldogproductions discog has a few mistakes as you correctly pointed out Dave. The discog from Soulful Kinda Music in Roger's original post looks correct overall for Sidra 45s without checking it all (re-posted below) but omits the Ronnie & Robyn on Team Town/HBR and Pearl Jones on W.I.G. - plus there were other releases on W.I.G which aren't mentioned: Sidra 9003 - The 5 Of A Kind - Please Tell Me (They Were Wrong) / The Other Side Sidra 9004 - The Chosen Lot - If You Want To / Time Was W.I.G. 9005 - Gino Washington - Romeo / Now You're Lonely Sidra 9006 - Ronnie & Robyn - Each Time / As Long As You Love Me (I'll Stay) Sidra 9007 - Ronnie & Robyn - Sidra's Theme / Blow Out The Candle Sidra 9008 - The Chantones - I Remember You / Talkin' Sidra 9009 -The Oxford Five - The World I've Planned / Out Of Love For You Sidra 9010 - The Embraceables - Here I Go / Let My Baby Go Sidra 9011 - Ronnie & Robyn - Step Into My Heart / As Long As You Love Me (I'll Stay) Sidra 9012 - Barbara Mercer - Call On Me / So Real Sidra 9013 - Timmy Willis - Mr.Soul Satisfaction / I'm Wondering Sidra10084 - Byron - I Just Want You (For My Own) / Whales Wail This also correctly shows Ronnie & Robyn on 9006 - the first release of As Long As You Love Me (I'll Stay) which came out as a red issue and a WDJ. The Chris Carpenter shown as 9006 in the globaldogproductions discog came out on Ocean-Side 100 and is a garage/psych thing - not soul. I will post up a scan of the rare Byron 45 if I get the chance later on Cheers Richard

Tv Tonight - Motorcity's Burning - Bbc4 11Pm
Tonight on BBC4 11pm Motor City's Burning: Detroit from Motown to the Stooges How the city produced two musical revolutions during the 1960s - the Motown label, which brought soul to a mass white audience, and the garage rock scene, which paved the way for punk. However, riots, drugs and Motown's decision to relocate meant Detroit's heyday did not last long. Contributors include Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Martha Reeves and former Supreme Mary Wilson. As well as soul I am also a huge fan of the Stooges and similar stuff so really looking forward to seeing this again. To be repeated on Monday I think. Cheers Richard

Louis Curry MS,Out-a-Sites SARU
Came out on the familiar blue 'sunburst' design label, also on a plain yellow issue which I believe came first, and on a WDJ copy. Top tune Richard

Would Anyone Grade This Record Ex+ ? (Bought On Soul Source)
Maybe again this is an example of the potential benefits of having a template for sales This would mean people need to fill in all relevant information including their location, payment methods, grading of label, vinyl etc. even a yes/no option to confirm presence/absence of things like label stains, sticker marks, WOL might work well? It would also mean we don't have issues with all the superfluous information, illegible fonts that people moan about You could also cut out bumping and "PM'd ya" messages - only allowing editing in the original template Plus, please ban YouTube clips - or only allow them all at the bottom of the list - they are a real pain in the ar*e and stop me looking at some lists all together now Grumpy from Newark Cheers Richard

Would Anyone Grade This Record Ex+ ? (Bought On Soul Source)
Rod I posted a thread on this topic a few months ago suggesting a SS grading scale/policy/guidelines. I volunteered to put it together but there was no real interest then. Glad you are looking at this now and don't see why a system agreed by SS members can't be part of the 'house rules' for selling on here. Happy to input if that would be helpful. Cheers Richard

George Carrow
Depends on whether you have the most valuable version of the demo or not. Sounds from the above that you have the second release and therefore less desirable and less valuable (I may be wrong on this but I'm sure someone will confirm). If this isn't the version of the record you wanted, or you have received a less valuable item, then either way it is a clear example of 'item not as described'. Raise the issue with the seller as soon as possible and get armed with the facts. If it helps, Manship Guide 5th edition has the mis-spelled demo at £60 and the reissued one with Special Rush Reservice at £45. Plus the latter does not have "ring Back My Heart"on the flip. Hope that helps Richard

Excellent stuff Roger - thanks for sharing! Cheers Richard

What They Worth?
I rest my case! Bye Richard

What They Worth?
Whether someone has good manners or not is something other people will judge - rather than something a person judges themselves. It's about how polite and well-mannered other people think someone else is. I think you will find most users of this forum are very friendly and helpful and would also expect a 'please' and 'thank you' if someone is asking for help. Here is your original post - not a please or thank you in there Richard
-
What They Worth?
I think it's advisable for posters to always show good manners when asking for help or advice on a forum such as this. Saying please and thank you costs nothing, as someone said above, but it is definitely going to increase your chances of a positive response. Richard

Telling Original From Re-Release
What is the record? Sometimes there are different pressings and both machine stamped and scratched-in details are legit Cheers Richard
