  1. Definately the Del-Royals version. Is Lou Rawls the more obvious version? Always reminds me of Colour Me Father, the sentiment of the song, not the actual tune
  2. Managed to get my son off laptop long enough to put these up - hope helps Mike
  3. Yep Paul, £100 in TB, quite a difference & as you say, not seen for less than JM price if it does come up for sale, so is the TB price realistic? Do seem to be a few like that in that particular guide, you can't win. As said before both great for reference, but not be all & end all. What your willing to pay, but i'm sure no one likes to be ripped off Mike
  4. In the TB guide if a record is £15 or less they just put low and not a price, & that seems to be what all the records that I have next to em  Dont't think i've been in the game long enough to have picked up all the above kind of things, nevermind Mike
  5. Have put the TB prices first & JM after if listed. Hope helps. Not any huge differences though. Hope helps Mike
  6. I have recently received both guides (as it took a month to get the JM one as the first lot got lost in the post). Have not had a chance to scan both fully, but do seem to be some quite big differences in prices. Some of the JM prices way over, & some TB Way under (I hope anyway). Obviously both to be used as a reference, & not a be all & end all of prices. I recently got A Shades of Jade for about £130. In TB it's a £100 (although on one of their recent lists it was up for £200), & on JM it's listed as £200. Whatever that may tell you. They do agree on The Montclairs - Hey you! at £750 though (just mentioning as selling mine in the New Year, unlikely to be as much as that though!!) If you have any particular 45's put them on & i'll throw up the TB prices Mike So
  7. Wow, someone actually mentioned 'Didn't It Rain - Evelyn Freeman'. I think it's great & recently found A copy, as had it from 'talkin' trash' (Greasy R&B with attitude '54 - '63, so the cover says) comp. Played it to a few people into R&B type stuff, but they all seemed to find it a bit too much, though they generally preferred the other side 'Water boy', which sounds like Pigmeat Markham, but doesn't really go anywhere. Don't think it would go down well at a Northern night. Heard the Cassietta George the other week & thats really good too, but had already gone Mike
  8. I love the James Brown version, believe it's the great Marva Whitney sparring with him Mike
  9. I'm still awaiting a few copies of the Manship price guide apparently mailed 5/11, although they(manship) could not tell me if they had been sent together or packs of 2. Not all for me i'd like to add (although after reading some of the posts on here, not sure if wise to get). Im sure if they had been sent separately I would have received one (my powers of deduction are quite immense). My postie told me today to call the customer service line (haven't got number yet, but can probably get from your local office) & they do some tracking of the item & where it's come from, although he did not sound that hopeful with the joy I might get. He did mention Sorting offices in London were out (on strike, I presume he meant) last week so could be items backed up from that. Manship has not suggested what action they will take, but advised had to wait 3 weeks. Annoying thing is I dont feel I can ask my mates for money for items I haven't received (does this site have an agony aunt page?) 3 weeks is almost up, so will have to see what joy I get. Very annoying, but thankfully never had any records go missing Mike
  10. I got mine off Shifty a year or two back if I remember rightly, & fairly cheap at that (about a tenner, although only vg, but plays fine). Have seen it a few times on his list since (nearer the prices quoted previously though), so may be worth checking him Mike
  11. I ordered one from there a week or 2 ago & got it the next day, £29.99 which inc p&p, bargain. Lucky as I needed it for a local gig the day after that The boxes that hold a 100 though have the handle at a funny angle, which does make it a little awkward to carry. If you look at the website it will show you. Why they made them like that I have no idea. Hours of fun Mike
  12. Buddy Scott on PM records Quite nice version, Swirling Hammond in the background, Chicago (I think?)
  13. My sons 9 & unfortunately seems to prefer Queen & more rock stuff!! Oh how I have tried to show him the error of his ways. His mother is into Johnny cash/Gram Parsons type thing. Maybe he's rebelling against his parents. Funny thing is though if a tune appears in a movie (ie Sly Stone in Shrek) he will suddenly like it. Although a couple of things he likes to sing along too (the Ideals - The Gorilla/Falcons - Im a fool). Mike
  14. I've bought a few bits from the guy called 'Toto' who has posted lists on Soul-Source before, & never had a problem. Mike
