SOULSOURCE RECORD CLUB 2016, YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT?
That's what I thought too originally and granted it's not a club tune, however probably the recent price tag has made me listen to it with more enthusiastic ears than normal and let it plant it's seed. There again I now have a soft spot for Neil Young, the Eagles and Janis Joplin, which I wouldn't have given the time of day as a lad. Changing the subject I've just been playing the excellent recent Kent CD; "Mainstream Modern Soul" , when this came on as I was walloping a wall and had to check out what was playing, having forgotten how good it is. Being a staple of every sales box I doubt if fetches more than a fiver, the record I'm talking about is The Dramatics No Rebate On Love, such a great tune, sounding really fresh this morning.

Nice reflection on past days there Martyn, anything past 8.30 PM is too late for me nowadays. Recently seen for sale as a new discovery for £150 , it is surprisingly soulful and thankfully mine was much less. Reminiscent of Bobby Womack's Columbia releases to these ears. Love the Joe Tex tracks, if anyone was underrated, particularly as a Northern Soul Artist, it was Joe. I wonder if anyone remembers this being played at the Torch ? Forgotten brass laden instrumental: Juggy Thock it to me Honi Sue:

Very easy on US Vando. I was surprised that there was so little interest in a nice 60's UK Demo.

SOULSOURCE RECORD CLUB 2016, YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT?
I haven't posted anything for quite a while either, holidays, family sickness, family business and Brexit being the main cause, ohh and a bollocking off the Mrs if I bought any more records. Every now and then I come across a tune that appears to be both cheap, well known to most except me and to top it all, a brilliant piece. So after spotting this on the unmentionable auction site and given it a spin on Youtube, the postman managed to sneak a lovely British Green and White demo on this on to the doormat, without causing the dog to bark and a domestic to ensue, all for just over a tenner. Apologies if it's a recent spin on here, but Chris Bartley has never sounded better than on this fabulous Van Mcoy and Joe Cobb production, I definitely found a goodie:

The vibrations .. cause your mine .. epic orig
There's some dispute as to whether these "stereo" copies are 2nd issues. There are number of threads on Soul Source about the "stereo" issue, but according to the "experts" , Epic weren't pressing Stereo copies in 1969 when the record was originally released.

OK but it's the other side that does it for me or is it "just an illusion" . Cracking tune.

Picked up a mint British Chess copy of this up from the Bay for a fiver. I'm sure that the opening intro must have been sampled somewhere, such a fab riff. Billy Stewart Everyday I have The Blues Backed with crossover perfection:

A missed opportunity for an ultimate Stax/Volt compilation IMOP. Though off subject really, there are some good choices on there.

Flippin 'eck, never seen Record Club so far down the list of hot topics. Anyway thought I'd plumb for Tony & Tandy to get it back up the list. Funnily enough I've always preferred this side cos it's what I bought it as a new release from Bews , Burslem when it came out over 45 years ago. Longer than those old tunes by Glen Miller , that they used to play at that time on the BEEB's Light Programme, back in the old days. Anyway it's a big tune, especially when the kitchen sink is thrown in: Tony & Tandy Two Can Make It Together Red Atlantic

Appears as an MP3 on the "skull" website, though I only found it by accident as it looks illegal to me.

SOULSOURCE RECORD CLUB 2016, YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT?
Just got round to picking one of these up, nearly 20 years after it was put out as a previously un-released track on a Goldmine "Groovesville Masters" CD then on 45 by them, two good sides by the way with Johnny Taylor Love on a Lease Plan, on the flip. J J Barnes' version being one of my favourite cross-over tracks of all time, unbelievably LV kills his version and goes even deeper:

Here's one I picked up after browsing one of Tim Brown's Rare Soul Reviews. One of the cheaper items in the mag that was subject to scrutiny and an Homer Banks composition too boot. Funnily enough I read the day after originally posting that it's got a recent CD release on :The Other Side Of The Trax - Stax Volt 45 rpm Rarities 1964-1968 - reviewed eleswhere on Soul-source. Sounds very much like Otis should have given it a go too:Johnnie Taylor - "Strange Things (happening to my heart)" - SOULSOURCE RECORD CLUB 2016, YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT?
