  1. Such..Matters should maybe discussed elsewhere However that incident and others plus the latest direct clash , has lead us to seriousley consider the future for the Pembo , its looking like December's event with Soul Sam will be the last, if people are gonna stoop that low then we aint playing, we have all got better stuff to do, good news is that Len Dopson is jumping back on board for this one in an effort to send the Pembo off with a bang and help get support for Soul Sam who, when we first asked was reluctant to visit Northants due to a certain run in with a Northants promoter. however in His words He had heard good reports about the venue so said yes!. Ref. the event that is clashing, what I find distasteful is that it is billed as a charity night, nothing wrong in that very worthy but surely if you genuinely wanted to earn as much as possible for this, why would you compromise the ammount you could raise by clashing . I know of at least fifty people that are attending the Pembo from the Rushden/Wellingboro area that would have also attended this event if on another night and other dates are available at this venue! Being a commitee member for a registered charity myself, working hard along with others for charitable local causes.this is a subject very close to my heart,so to see a good cause maybe not fully benefit really angers me atb Jem
  2. Thing is Nidge a few of those names mentioned DJd at the last Wellingboro Alldayer where the promoter dosent have a problem with one of His djs at least openly playing boots of just about everything. Dont know who you are referring to ref others in the area but i guarantee as a percentage more ovo has been played at the Pembo than the cracker and yet Kev will dj at the Alldayer but has not set foot in the Pembo for years which is on His doorstep and has featured some really good djs with some of the best collections in the country...seems to be some double standards going on here?
  3. Have been involved in promoting events in the Northants area for the last 6 years and despite some of the bad press the area gets (mainly on here from a few individuals) up untill recentley I thought local promoters managed to communicate quite well. not much clashing and events spread around. However it only takes someone to come along and put an event on too close to another as happened locally a while back and everybody is a loser ...attendees dont want it as it comprimises the events they can afford to attend and promoters get the arse cos numbers can be down. Tried making this point a few years back on here and basically got accused of being jealous of another event which was not the case.....funny, that event has since finished after a short run but we are still going so . I suppose the lesson is be respectful to attendees and other promoters and right will out. All that said I notice that another long established local promoter has decided to clash directly with the next event at the Pemberton Centre in December (Pembo dates for 2011 been posted up for over a year) and this event only added recentley, events are within an 8 mile radius and musically will be very similar...ridiculous in my opinion ....but hey dont say we didnt try.
  4. So what you are saying then is ...do as I say, not as I do/did... a bit like the reformed smoker syndrome ? Kev in a short space of time you have adopted a new set of values which is fine, but the fact of the matter is that you built the cracker playing boots all be it naively you may say, The point I am making is ....lets say another person like you starts a local soulnight now and plays a few boots but is heart is in the right place...would it be fair in your eyes to adopt the zero tollerance stance you now take. Before anyone jumps on the" having a go at Kev " thing ....for the record despite differences we may have cos He listens to much to gossip . I have in the past put Kev on to records etc (ovo) . He will be the first to admit that his knowledge of the music is limited and where i could I have tried to point Him in the right direction and share information about records (can I have the majestees back Kev?). Just seems that if we are gonna persecute people people that harshly we may throw out the baby with the bath water as the saying may go.
  5. Phhhew.....is that really it now mate my first post so that should do it
  6. Funny thing is though Kev if you had abided by that opinion a few years ago you probably wouldnt be a dj/promotor now...cos in the first few years of the "cracker" you played and owned mainly "boots" now you are "V.C.Correct" maybe you should start a self help group for people who play or feel they might want to dj with boots, so they can become vinyl cool as well...atb

No taste anyway! buy the Sapphires version (original) for fraction of the cost....superior version, with possibly my favourite intro of all time
  12. Agree love this track , very underated and a" buy it for pennies" record.

The varying degrees depends on how much pressure you apply while skimming , depending on the quality of vinyl will have an affect on end result , best example i can give is say a british tamla motown 500 number (good quality vinyl ) with lots of light scratches will respond well to a medium skim. and would not affect sound quality . as long as chemicals were not applied during process

Reading this with intrest ...people seem to be confusing issues here . 1. Cleaning enhancing or restoring a record you own is not a crime , plenty of people have antique clocks and the like done . 2. Selling something that is second hand that may of been enhanced is also not a crime again plenty of people polish scratches etc. on a cars paint work before they sell . May not be very nice but its a "buyer be aware" scenario im afraid . All that said I do agree that if a record is described as mint- I would expect it to be this way ie: naturally without blemishes- not enhanced ! personally if i purchased a record from a dealer described as being mint , but I suspected being skimmed or polished I would just ask for my money back , most proper dealers will do this. I f they dont you aint buying from them again so in the end they are the losers. Finally a word on the practice of skimming . I have skimmed or experimented with skimming hundreds of records over the years . not for dealers or to sell on I would add ...before someone says " I BET " here is the reason why- skimming records is just too inconsistent with the results to bother . 1. Forget skimming styrene it gets too hot and will affect the playing surface 2.. It will not remove sratches you can feel with your fingernail or jumps or clicks. 3. Over skimming will affect the run in a dead give away it will jump quickly into the track also if you skim into the run out it will go misty another give away. 4. There are so many different grades of vinyl out there some poor some good again inconsistent with skimming results. 5. British vinyl is usually good quality and responds well to skimming. Be aware if you collect this stuff. 6. If you buy a record that looks over shiny , simply wipe round the vinyl with a strong mix of washing up liquid and wipe off dry with a tea towel it will soon undo enhancing and then reveal skimming. In truth the best that can be achieved with skimming is taking a record with light scratches that is say vg/ vg+ to maybe ex/ex+ its not really gonna make it that much better just take the edge of a few crackles ....my advice leave well alone or save your money and buy mint from someone reputable
