Best Of Maxine Brown Wand Years New Kent Cd
Two, the one on the first LP and CD and now this. Val Simpson also did a demo version which I happen to have on acetate.

Uptown Downtown
Yes probably, it's not a great term to use, I'm gonna avoid it in future. Different cities were different though, I think downtown in LA was the rougher area.

Uptown Downtown
I use Uptown, to describe slick, smooth, well produced soul like the Impressions, Maxine Brown, Bettye Swann, Tony Clarke etc. i think it's probably not a very good term, a bit vague, but if you see it in the Ace catalogue it's probably Chicago or NYC soul though Motown would probably be Uptown too. Early Stax wouldn't be.

Best Of Maxine Brown Wand Years New Kent Cd
It's just a great unreleased dancer that we never put out before; partly because I was hoping we might find a version with strings or extra instruments, but it does have a great brass section and may have been the finished version after all. It's defo Wand but we don't know who wrote or produced it.

Mark Lamaar's " Alternate 60s " Show Thursday 26th Feb
That wasn't the 6TS night though. I agree he's a good geezer with taste and is hopefully gonna help me a bit with the Kent Harris Story CD.

Earliest Northern Soul 45s
The Frank Minion on Vik that I play is 1956 I think and at West Hampstead we used to play Fats Waller Your Feet's Too Big but not for a proper dance more a group hug at the end of the night.

Best Of Maxine Brown Wand Years New Kent Cd
I agree and the other Van McCoy non 45 LP track Wonder What My baby's Doing Tonight is utterly brilliant too, i speculate as to why it was never a 45 in the notes and Maxine concurs to an extent.

Best Of Maxine Brown Wand Years New Kent Cd
At last it's the proper Wand 45, and it's funny that all other reissues since copied our audio and made exactly the same mistake. This is the first time the right take has been on CD. I Want A Guarantee is purposefully a quite different equally good vocal take to the original that we put out as we thought it deserved an airing. Why Did I Choose You is a very good dancer that has never been heard before.

I like the office where I can spy on everyone on CCTV! The bar's been particularly interesting recently.

No they were passers by who decided to punch Winston, which was a bad move all round. I can't remember the Ion incident at all but I hope it happened. Putting off a tricky bit of work so I get that adrenalin rush when I realise I'm about to miss the deadline.

How Many Copies Known?
Just played Ace's discographer Peter Gibbon's copy of Floyd Barber on Symbol, it's very good but inbetween so many styles, Northern, mod R&B. Has it ever had any plays or action?

I once threw a bloke up the stairs in an altercation with a gang of mainly mad women, he was surprisingly light; but I had been provoked.

I would have thought the Roseberry Ave do but not certain. Was the E&C do in a warehouse on an industrial estate?

Is this the first time some fool has nabbed the first 4 threads on all about the soul for a club or any topic?
