  1. Hi Chris, nobody said it didn't get played, I was asking whether it did and it appears so, though not by Ian as the article inferred. However the rest of the paragraph is either incorrect or misleading and is about Ian making out he got one over on everyone at the Dome when as you can see that's hardly the case. It's not Levine bashing, just defending a terrific club that a lot of us on here loved to go to.
  2. I was, but wasn't straight enough (mentally that is).
  3. The bootleggers were trying to make out it was a Detroit discovery to put people off the LA location. Has anyone got their Main Street on Revue?
  4. I think history may have been re-written. "The Dome was running all-nighters at the time and had a policy whereby anything made after 1970 wouldn't get played. Every time I went there I would get asked for the Four Vandals. They simply couldn't get enough of it. As soon as it was on the decks the floor would fill and this for a record that was recorded in 1999. Had they known that it would have been banned from the club." The Dome didn't run all-nighters, did Levine ever DJ there? I thought not, when he asked Matt Jahans for a spot Matt asked him to do a tape and he went off in a hissy fit. Did anyone ever play the Four Vandals there or has he completely lost it (again)?
  5. Latest 6ts News inc 18 Aug Event and Anniversary Ticket News Irish Pip belatedly added to Jack's 6TS nighter due to malfunctioning of promoter. The DJing sensation of the last Cleethorpes weekender (no pressure there then Pip!) has just reminded me I booked him for next Saturday (18th Aug) nighter at Jack's and like the weevil I am, forgot to put him on the flyer. He's trecking across the sea so this article should put that right and emphasise what a stunning line up of DJs it will be. Butch, Keith Money, Ady Croasdell, Adam Torel, Warren Boogaloo and Pip. Also don't forget that ickets for the 28th all nighter (Sept 22nd at the 100 Club) go on sale on the night.

  7. I remember my mate Mick Humphries paying £4 for it at the Lantern All Nighter in Market Harborough around 1970, that was a fortune then, nearly a weeks wages and the EMI would have been a cheaper option. The record collecting scene wasn't at all developed even a UK issue from 4 years before was very tough to find. There were only a hand full of occasional dealers and only one or two people travelling to the States.
  8. There are undoubtedly proper original release EMI Discs, I have several and that Garnet Mimms looks genuine but you'd need to know some of the history of the disc before you could authenticate it.
  9. Well that's way earlier than the London cut ones (a little place off denmark st, the old Tin Pan Alley) so it's odd that I remember them being such a novelty. Either way they were considered almost as good as the real thing back then; you could advertise 'Times A Wasting' at your dance (see my recent treatise in Northern Monsters!) and not many would care what label it was on.
  10. The ones cut in London in the early 70s, which I'm pretty sure were the first on the scene as no-one up North seemed to know where to get them done, were at one point considered almost as good to own as the original. Certain dealers would sell the original to a Northern DJ, not letting him know they'd done it and felt like they had got one over on the buyer in the deal. Big records were called "Sounds" and if you had the "Sound" it didn't make much difference what label it was. A bootleg was worth the same as an original once it was pressed.
  11. S-S is lovely but not a dancer, the title begins with "Can't" but I keep getting the rest of it wrong!
  12. One of them is an unissued Opals Okeh recording, there's the Holly Maxwell unissued Chess and the Demures I Wanna Be Good To You all unissued masters. A crossover one I play by the Paramount 4 is similar and I think as good as Unique Blend and there's a stunning male vocal group acetate by the Quotations I Wanna Thank You Baby. They're all from different sources but I reckon I've got as good a batch of new stuff as in the RCA unissued days. It's just finding the time and the crowd to play them to.
  13. Johnny G, Jack's manager, just rang me to say there were rumours at Stoke this weekend that the next Jack's nighter had been cancelled. Not at all, it's never been in doubt. Butch, Mick Smith, Keith Money, Warren Boogaloo, Adam Torel and I will be playing some superlative soul sounds from 10pm-7am. The rumour probably started because the R&B nighter Hard As Nails that I have nothing to do with has cancelled all their future nights at the venue. See y'all on the 18th when 6TS 28th anniversary tickets for the 100 Club nighter on Sept 22nd go on sale. Ady
  14. Jack's 6TS nighter still on Aug 18th! View full article
  15. That'd be me squire, I worked for the chaps who ran it and learned my dealing trade there. The US trips were for myself, I still live near the Beeb. Most famous find on there was a 25 box of Jimmy Thomas' The Beautiful Night' when it was massive and there were only one or two known copies.
  16. I nearly covered one of theirs, may have been the 'Every Night' one. But I didn't.
  17. Thanks Dan, it might help and though I tend to Gareth's argument it could conceivably be the man on his travels or even a lease to a NYC label, I've got enough egg on my face from stuff in the past to never discount anything nowadays.
  18. I think Gareth's about right, didn't Casey-Jones produce other stuff too? Len J would have done his own production. He's dead now but I'm trying to track his family down, his work needs documenting properly. Any leads would be gratefully received. Gareth you should have got to the 100 Club earlier I played it about 10pm!
  19. That's the one Hun' thanks a bunch Ady
  20. No Sian, but it's brilliant and I've just lost half an hour of a very busy day! The one I want is about posters of big soul revue's from the 60s, it was on here about a year ago I think. Thanks Ady
  21. Anyone give me a link to the thread we had going on old US soul posters particularly the big Revue type ones. Ta Ady PS Excuse my French
  22. Due to computers being really mean and nasty to me and the odd crisis or three, I’ve not been able to do a proper mail-out or even get the new memberships sorted properly. Rest assured you’ll all get in tonight, the memberships are optional now anyway with the new licensing laws and you don’t really need them. The new membership cards will be on the door to be picked up. We’ve got a great DJ line up tonight featuring Butch, Mick Smith, John Weston, Mick H, Paul McKay and myself. As a rough guide, we’ll be playing club soul and well known stuff up to 1 am and the rarer dog’s bollocks after that through till 6 am. Don’t forget you can legally drink now right through to 5 am; so pace yourselves! Ady
