  1. Today the grand old man of Black Music celebrates being an octogenarian. Apart from giving us records of the calibre of 'Human', 'Didn't I Tell You', 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself', 'Words Can Never Tell It', 'I'll Make You Happy', 'New Neighborhood', 'Your Man', 'The Pretty Part Of You' and 'Loving On The Losing Side', he was a singer with the Flamingos and apparently was one of the best live acts ever to perform at the Appollo in the early 60s. His name is revered by many US singers and many acts want to hook up with him when they hear he is living over here. Please share your memories of him and if anyone can post up the video of him dancing like a dervish with the Flamingos that would be a great reminder of how he was the real thing.

  4. Could anyone who sees a review I might miss email me with them to ady.croasdell@btinternet.com please. Bettye doesn't do computers yet and I said I'd print out what I could for her and snail mail them. Or if you want to put anything on this thread I'll send that on to her too. Ta Ady
  5. Was it PA over a mike and singing to her records or a full band?
  6. You picked the only one without an act Benji!
  7. I'm sure I've got it somewhere too Theresa. x
  8. Lightweights! The Macc Lads have been an ever present as a two/three chalet/van gang along with Hinckley, the Rileys of Notts, East Anglian mob, Beds bunch and the Keogh clan of Lancs. Them and all the other regulars are hugely appreciated. Ady
  9. I've done a few but my memory isn't what it was
  10. Yes it was mainly jazz and sometimes blues in the 60s but plenty of beat groups too, I think the Animals had a residency there for a while
  11. Tony Smith 1's wife to be Jet was behind the bar. I just told the boozers to buy 4 pints at ten to three and stick them under the table
  12. 1 am start first, later put back to 1.30 after the jazzers moaned. We rearranged the room before opening the doors. One night we had a battle with a gang from Acton inbetween, Mick, Wid, Roger and I saw them oFf, didn't even need Randy for that. I don't remember bananarama, jo boxers and shane mcgowan from the pogues were the main celebs who attended regularly
  13. That's it Bob, a scan of Xmas Day would be great. Ta. 101 seems tough
  14. Thanks for that, if anyone speaks to 'em soon could you ask them for me please? Ady

  16. There are 2 Paso 45s Any help will be rewarded! Ady
  17. I like Jean Carter, though it's a little too poppy for my tastes it's undeniably a brilliant mid 60s dance record. However Antellects I adored from first hearing, it stands out immediately with its own original sound and is solid atmosphere, I didn't know it was rare when I first heard it (I can be very dim that way) and struggle to imagine how it can be described in this way; each to his own though.
  18. I think its an old boot, the seller may not realise
  19. Missing catalogue numbers with no known records as far as I know; I just wondered if anything had turned up since the last discogs were done.
  20. I only know it from a discog at Ace, never seen it or heard of it.
  21. And does anyone have Gary Branch 'Mayaguez' on Clintone 015?
  22. Do they exist? Ady
