Blues Busters... The Neverending Saga
HI ALL...Following on from yesterday, the interruption made, made me forget to make the conclusion to my posting, So here goes Philip James & lloyd Campbell, made some fine records way into the 7T's, However it is the 1964 sessions recorded at FEDERAL KINGSTON, That gave us the trax on the BEHOLD LP. and it is around this time that both Byron Lee issued his latest LP also the MAYTALS, Because of this you get Philip James credited or the blues busters & TROJAN 6 years on making the mistake by naming the MAYTAL, As we no all trax are the BLUES BUSTERS with Philip James taking the lead (in a duet is that possible? So to conclude SOUL is the original label, with the coloured vinyl being more collectible, Byron Lee BRA Label was a 6t's reissue label & has some great records on, the value of the 45s is a hard one as they are rarer but reissues, the original JA BEHOLD LP is SUNSHINE S/LP 002 although you may see it listed as FEDERAL 002, Below I have put the back of the sleeve, for your into, the ISLAND LP & THE DOCTOR BIRD LP are very hard to find and fetch CORN, the UK ISLAND 45 is a must keep or a big sale depending on taste AS ALWAYS DAVE

HI SORRY FOR NOT GETTING BACK SOONER? The Rangers is almost identical in design, the MAN UNITED IS BLUE LETTERS WHITE BACKGROND, Please note the valuation of the MAN UNITED 45 I got off EBay from a dealer in football memorabilia, I agree with you but I would use that as a auction starter not a set sale, I also pick up football records, SPURS, is quite rare on 6ts label but m west ham records mean the most? After speaking to ROY GELDER last weekend (top UK collector) informed me of a few records that were bootlegged for the rare soul scene starting in 1966, when I get the details I will post them,so my TAMS is nowhere near the 1st? it's a name that this thread did not reveal more info, as all early BOOTS are rare and collectible, thanks DAVE

HI ALL...JUST TRIED TO SEND A PM TO GENE, RE:- THE COMENTS HE IS TAKING NO MESSAGES FROM ME, MUST BE MILLWAL??
-
Blues Busters... The Neverending Saga
HI ALL ..I will deal with GENE later! the point I was going to raise may seem poultry to some, but of interest to others? On the sleeve of TTL 15 "WIDE AWAKE IN A DREAM" is credited to the MAYTELS, whose name is used rightly as the A side of the island WI 219 45 "TELL ME THE REASON" This 45 has always been a much wanted side with SKA Collectors, and with the BLUESBUSTERS on the B side being in demand on the RARE SOUL SCENE, with poor sales, this has become a high price 45, However for me it was many years later that i become aware that it was the BLUES BUSTER PHILIP JAMES. The BEHOLD LP on ISLAND ILP-923 is an excellent must have LP, The JA SOUL release is the original issue, and there are several color vinyl copies to get green yellow red, i have had, BRA is a WIRL reissue label from the 1960s with some excellent records on it, are the records worth more on BRA? Who knows, but I would say a colored original on SOUL is worth more, and the UK ISLAND COPY much rarer and much wanted, PS,, GENE would you please explain why you have retorted to highlight my full name on this site?? and your comment on sucking eggs? be constructive and please reply, AS ALWAYS DAVE K

Cracked Vinyl 45S
HI ALL....Why do you collect records? if like me, your collection gets plenty of play, and as collector you have the BUG, then you will be a regular buyer of records, week in & week out, Many collectors who have the top rare records, have achieved this buy buying & selling there prize dusties at a time they were at the peak, and invested in records that had yet to get big, these collectors are the best resource for getting rare records with imperfections, as trying to collect mint condition records 40 years old would be an impossible venture, In today's market their are those people who will only buy records in ex or better condition, as they view that in the long term they were investing for the future, (The truth of the matter they have already missed the boat, by 4 years?) As a collector who buys records for personal enjoyment, I will consider any record for my collection, as long as I can restore it to play, and as such over the years many rare records with hairline cracks I have obtained cheap, the same goes for UK Records with NOC if it ain't in my collection I will buy it, and upgrade it over a period of time. Keith said he will find a home for it, I'm sure he will, as he knows that a collector will purchase it exists somewhere? DAVE K

Blues Busters... The Neverending Saga
HI ALL IT has been over 40 years that I first heard the classic "wide awake in a dream" by Philip James (BLUES BUSTERS), On a series of LPs put out b TROJAN RECORDS, The LPs kept the tradition that ISLAND RECORDS were famous for, bringing obscure Jamaican records to the UK,, Back in 1968, the first REGGAE records become very popular with both black & white kids, in areas of the UK where the black immigrants from the WEST INDIES first settled, REGGAE music was the new dance that come out of KINGSTON, picked up on in LONDON straight away by ISLAND & PAMA, PAMA RECORDS being more in touch with youth culture than ISLAND RECORDS, Who were more interested in their new PINK LABEL, PAMA played their Ace card with LAURAL AIKEN, and promoted the new sound at the young, Meanwhile TROJAN released the true JA product, and quite early on, TROJAN reissued the classic SKA RECORDINGS on 3 lps, and it is on TROJAN TTL 15 INDEPENDENT JAMAICA, track 2 side 2, that "WIDE AWAKE IN A DREAM" by the Maytals to be continued in 3 hours DAVE K

Dancing In The Street Instrumental ?
s HI CHEERS FOR THE INFO "NOT A LOTTA PEOPLE NO THAT?" The classic film "GET CARTER" comes from the ear tattood on my arm 1969, for many people back in the 1980s watching it on a VHS, many people who collected music, wanted the "GET CARTER" Score up until then our world of collecting as eclectic as it was back then, relied on info sharing and knowlage colation, as it was HIP not to disclose the knowlage, we all plated "FO FO" (Fof & find out youself) some one told me it does exist on a JAP LABEL £300+. & LONG DELETED, Once we entered the digital world 1982 we d CD's and that caused mayhem? as rare records come out day after day, "get carter" has been about for 10 years, the ROY BUD 45 has a good repro on blue PYE & can be heard on the most bizzare TV programes, some great music out there in the world DAVE

Dancing In The Street Instrumental ?
HI ALL,,,PETE I thought you meant the Mike Mansfield LP, The last copy I sold was last year £100, however i have seen it sell for £15 & £200+ mad, the 45 I have must be worth £40, not that I would sell my copy, it's to rare to flog, TALKING of DANCING IN THE STREET! On this Iconic LP,by Jack Hawkins, recorded at BLACKPOOL MECCA TRACK #2 SIDE 1, 30-60-90 is from the GET CARTER FILM, Thus making the LP collectible, this LP is a must some of the music would fall into PETES awful cat, however with the GET CARTER CONEX the quality seems to improve somewhat, a bit like a UK DEMO sounds better than a ISSUE, OR IS THAT JUST ME? NICE SCANS FOR YOU TO LOOK AT???? DAVE

HI ALL..IAN How apt that this label got releases in JA, it's a homage to the country who gave us the origanal DJ VERSION RAPP & RYAM, The great SUGAR HILL SOUNDS of HIP HOP owe a lot to the TOASTER & BOASTERS that we have followed from our youth, great scansm DAVE

Have I Gone Off My Rocker?
HI ALL And a good question from "a fine young man" Mr Andrews and an excellent much needed resource, when I do a posting I try to give as much info artist title label my rating & value, it is this last point that I also get confused about, as rarity is not an indicator to vale or current cost, both TED & PETE Have pulled me up,(see GLEN MILLER), PETE SMITH had a good system when he wrote the BEATIN RYTHM UK 45 PRICE GUIDE, BASICALY he put a value next to a letter from the alphabet, so:- A=£5-10, B=£10-15, C=£15-20, D=£20-30 & so on it's so easy to follow and it's all inclusive,, the fact a record is in the A or B group means it is relatively cheap or inexpensive, & definitely does not stand for crap, if this was applied to US records, BILLIE DAVIS STANKY would have been in the A column, & the VONETTES in the H GROUP, as a collective no way can an agreed price range zoom from A to J?? Also not relevant is the meaningless quote "a record value is down to the individual, and what they are prepared to pay"? That's asking to mugged, if you are unaware of the guesstimate value, with titters in the background saying he's been STANKIED, The market is always changing at the moment it's a buyers market, I suppose if the DJ/RECORD DEALER wants to get the money in, they will have to get back to a position of selling rare records such as NORTHERN SOUL WHAT SAYS YOU YOUNG SIR?

Dancing In The Street Instrumental ?
HI TONY Yes it was the very same track from the LP, however they trimmed the LP down to 8", I think Russ played it, the LP come out in 71, BAND OF GOLD Inst was good, TEARS OF A CLOWN still sounds good, and could make a good mix with the SMOKEY 45, As for quality 45s I have "working in a coalmine" 1st class Hammond instrumental, however from all the years trawling obscure LPs KEITH MANSFIELD - BOOGALOO - EPIC 5-10504 B, Is the very best unissued in the UK, This excellent instrumental won't disappoint, scan only sorry it's on youtube DAVE
-
La Coupe Records ?
Dave, can't see any link at all to BENELUX collectors, what makes you think so? HI You got me! I read it in some mag that I have got, as a answer to the same question? back then (8ts) there were several things put out, that also appealed to the UK scene, the mag valued it at £20? it's 100% not a UK record or US, 2 GOOD SIDES THOUGH DAVE
-
Paul Anka When We Get There?
HI ALL HOW RIGHT YOU ARE STEVE, However Paul Anka surprised me in it's comeback, the record for me was quite hard to get on a UK DEMO in the 8ts as there are really not that many about hence the cost,...as for MY GUY an original MOD anthem, R&W DEMOS are also hard to find under £100, DAVE
-
La Coupe Records ?
HI ALL Why this BOOTLEG has Made in Great Britain, was because it was aimed at the BENELUX Brothers & Sisters, which makes it more valuble? great records only worth £10, tops DAVE
