  1. HI ALL Early Friday morning? or 12 to 12 Thursday= I have played this record 4 x in 4 hours, It's Jimmy Ruffin's 1st record (I think, ) and the B side, record never released by UKE EMI Tamla Motown, so it has a bit of value in 2012, and if you have not heard this before, I hope you can see the potential of this sleeper, I Recommend it, but what do I no?...So why did I pick this? I have about 600 Motown records, and a shelf of 300 record that just sit there, tonight I picked the SOUL LABEL, The label does live up to it's name, playing the EARL VAN DYKE 45s the FLICK Pt2 is class, 6x6 classic Jr Walker records fantastic with GOT TO HOLD ON TO THIS FEELING, brilliant, the INTRO is in the top 10 of all time, one of my favorite records, of course I ain't got a frank Wilson but I have the 2 records it was sandwiched against, What I like in particular about the Jimmy Ruffin 45, is the backing track, so so familiar, the record sounds more RIC-TIC than MOTOWN, does this backing track come from GROOVESVILE,?? JIMMY RUFFIN - "HOW CAN i SAY I'M SORRY" - SOUL S3516, Rated ***** Value £10+ should really be played to night by any DJ ,,,, maybe you? please enjoy this record, and tell me the backing session players? please DAVE https://youtu.be/_-cvrJISbOY
  2. HI All .......I remember him, it's Leggy the low down BUM, who was always assing about, he had bad breath? hallo toasties?
  3. HI ADY, PLEASE DON'T TELL ME THAT JOE WILKS! was not in the frame? if so I have dropped a bo**ock, anyway she was a good sort, and made my nights at WIGAN IN 73/74 as did all the Bedford & Cambridge CROWD, good old days and the very best days at the CASINO WERE THE FIRST 3YRS, can't think of a better place until 75, not counting the MECCA, PS-RE:-TAMALA LEWIS, that was your find? (TAMLA) LEWIS, I think you lot should take the credit, I would? DAVE?
  4. HI ALL GREAT DANCER, I THOUGHT SHE LIVE IN CAMBRIDGE? With Joe Wilkes? remember LEGS & JOE in the STUDENT PRINCE? 1969 and going up the DOT, I have GOERGINAS ADDRESS?. DAVE Who's Phil?
  5. HI ABSALUTELY BANG ON BRUVVER! IT WAS AS IF "RANKING JOHNNY BOY" IM IN THE ROOM WITH I, I actually have been after this record since 1984 when it was listed on MJ RECORDS LIST £50, SOLD. This copy in ex+ condition. come from well known London dealers and collector of UK RARE SOUL WIL JOHNSON, Who has had many treasures on his lists over the years, in 2012 I really miss the days when a RARE RECORD LIST, was posted, apart from Will J, Ian CLARK & MJ Records, every now & again, the concept has almost gone,MARTIN KOPEL had a great list, also Dopey Dick, list of 20000 records was a good read?? the thing with proper lists they were crammed with all the records I wanted, most lists are today filled up with 7t's DISCO B sides and re-packaged as rare, of course It's a matter of taste but RARE well maybe good yes, but classic soul??? I think not, MODERN SOUL sounds great if your making LOVE, (SO ONCE YOU HAVE PLAYED 1 RECORD?) YOU GET MY DRIFT DAVE
  6. HI ALL, MUST HAVE NORTHERN SOUL, YES INDEED A FEW FIXES OF THE GREAT LARRY HALES ONCE.NOW AND AGAIN! The pounding Brass Beat, got the CASINO into GEAR at 3.45am, and it pleases me that Pete still has his original copy as this is a true Wolverhampton Stomper, that's what I call all records with this BIG BEAT, some call it NORTHE SOUL, "GET HIP MAN! My copy is DIANOND ISSUE, 2 Things about the record 1, it was considered for a $TATESIDE RELEASE?? 2, demos exist on the same label as the issue? oh 3, I once got confused about the BOBBY DIAMOND Record?? can you believe that???OK you can  DAVE
  7. HI ALL......HOW RARE IS THIS UK 45 IN 2012? We all no this Non-Northern Soul classic, even if you were not in the CLASS of 72, issued on LONDON, LIBERTY & EMI INTERNATIONAL, FATS DOMINO "IT KEEPS RAININ" LONDON HLP 9374 DEMO, HOW OFTEN HAVE YOU SEEN THE DEMO? IF EVER? I would love John Manship to do one of his excellent and descriptive write up, any ideas and maybe a speculative value as well? PS my scanner is broken?? DAVE
  8. HI ALL- That's the answer I was hoping to hear, as I have only the grey star Boot to compare with, red star and issue sold in the 8Ts, I could not resist this one, as I had never seen it, just compare it to a Robert Knight issue and it looks spot on, thanks DAVE
  9. HI ALL The Blackpool MECCA SPIN covered up as "SOME GUYS" PATIANCE VALANTINE, Was so popular, that it was BOOTED With the C/U NAME, WHEN IT WAS UNCOVERD, IT WAS EDDIE WALKER "GOOD GUYS" RISING SONS R545-713B Since then I have had 3 different demos of it, 1, white label with red star, 2, white with green star (boot) & 3, white with no star? also the black issue, Q, IS THE ALL WUITE DEMO a Boot or legit? anybody,
  10. Hi All They did release the 100 club 45's as advanced cops? Never seen them at all, I was thinking of going to this aniversary, just to get a 45? Dave
  11. MARTYN PLEASE GROW UP! STOP THE INSULTS PLEASE, By all means have your say if it is to do with my reply about when records got played or become available, there is no need to act like my Grandson (in picture) he is 4 years old,? when I next see Mick Smith I will bet the full story of GRAPEVINE,as he gave me the acetates, maybe DAVE WELDING can come up with more info, personally I would rather have the KENT 45s that Mick had, and I never found out if Ady did similar to the KENT6T'S 100 CLUB FREEBEIS? As they would go for decent money, Anyway it seems that all the evidence points to early 78, but it is possible that GINGER had a cut from John in Dec 77, but was it played, please ask him, and put the tape on the TUBE YOU? AND NO MORE OF THIS CRAP PLEASE HOWS THE BROKEN LEG? TUT TUT? DAVE
  12. IN RESPONCE HI ALL...Tell you what Martyn, you remember me, don't you,? the topic was about the acetate sold by John Manship at the end of his last auction, £600+, my input is about similar RCA acetates that I have or still have? and my posting has to reiterations stating that it is my opinion, and knowledge about the music industry in the 7T's when I has close friends starting companies in SOUND & LIGHT, WORKING BOTH, I also had the privilege to tour with a few bands stay in POST HOUSES & HOLIDAY INNS not BERNI INNS thinking it was cool yo take a sort for chicken in a basket, I have been to many All-Nighter and most of my records come from the TOP COLLECTORS, who also went to WIGAN & ST IVES Selling to many DJs, I will admit that these people were very knowledgeable and had good business heads, unlike myself who in comparison was a joker & immature, THE GRAPEVINE LABEL was just getting started when I dropped of the scene in May 78, there release of ROSEMARY & WHAT, meant nothing to me what so ever, as I had the original records, in the case of JUDY STREET my copy was from ADY CROSDALE, he was the first to sell copies on STRIDER, I must state to you, I have a strong dislike of cowards lies & hypocrites, also I take offence when someone thinks I doubt their opinion and become confrontational about it, however at that time I had to disappear from the scene as I was poisoned by all the intake of chemicals, in 77 I got busted for the 3rd time this was going to ST IVES, (We no a song about a man going to ST IVES, don't we children?) the old bill missed the wraps £10 deals in the corners of record sleeves? As I say I did not state anything about you or GINGER (HE HAD THE OTHER VERSION FROM JOHN?), Finally just to remind you I'm not a I'm A ex NORTH HERTS GANGSTER, MANY THANKS May the SPIRIT of 69 be with you! Mr K.
  13. HI ALL Back in the 8t's the CAR BOOTS around Wolves had so many good finds, I often would get home spent up, with 1 to 200 45s, found loads of DEMOS even 1 Beatles R&W, + the Stones Rod Stewrt R&W COLUMBIA, The In-Betweens, + Steve Brett issue & demos. Micheal Jackson,DMC MEGA MIX, I am sure I was at the same BOOT as ROB when he got that, if it was DUDLEY ZOO? Yes she was from DUDLEY (I think you told me this fact?) like KEITH stated even though it falls in the Rare catogary not the very rare, even if you have the money, I can't see many collectors selling their copy, mine is minty from MJ RECORDS, who else, DAVE
  14. HI ALL,,,It was never played in 77 anywhere!. I can't say that I am 100% sure, however if you look at my Jimmy Burnsand my Larry Clinton, they were issued on GRAPEVINE #118 & #120, IN MY OPINION! #115 EXISTS on a accitate as #123, #125,#127 & possible #135. #138, all the others as such there was no need, again this is only my opinion, So if what I am saying is part right (some unrealeased numbers may exist) the rare accitate copys were made available to at best 3 DJ's only and proberly only 12 weeks before release date, a s it is a sur bet any longer, someone would get hold of one. I have worked this out on the fact that some of the known accitates had a US demo or Issue, most of us did not see an AL WILLIAMS until the 1980s, if JOHN had the SHRINE CAT,he would have done the same again with Richard, The only doubt about when it got played is based on the month it was release minus 12 weeks so after March 78 it's 100% Jan & Feb 78 it would be 90%, I agree totaly with Ian how rare is rare? I had a CHRIS JACKSON on 444 LABEL, that's rare, so are these, and I am waiting for more scans, DAVE K
  15. HI ALL...First things first, TOMMY HUNT, TOP RECORD. also worth a spin is DIRECTION #3216 "I NEED A WOMAN" CLASS. My pick at this early part of SATURDAY MORNING, Is a record from the shelf rather than the box? I can never pass it by without a spin, a classic in every which way, for sure, & from that period of time on the SOUL SCENE I call the TWIX, This was a time that many OLD SCHOOL dropped of the scene, no not 81, but 73 the TWIX between TORCH & WIGAN, when there were many classics unearthed and played at the PENDLEUM, VVAVA CENTRAL & CARLTON also STAFFORD and the HOWARD MALLET, The SOULVILLE ALL-STARS "I'M GONNA GET TO YOU" SOULVILLE RECORDS SV 1006B. Rated ***** Value £120 must have If you are not attempting to dance to this as I do and I am 60, give it up now please, as this is classic NORTHERN SOUL ENJOY.
  16. HI ALL..Jerry I meant I thought it was Dana V when I 1st heard the record not now in 2012, I thought was before I become astute. had a does anyone think they no who it is? also I think that certain GRAPEVINE RECORS should be OK to play these days, if they are important to your set & don't get played when another DJ has the rare original copy in his set, and you have cocked it up, if I was doing a spot i would play my Larry Clinton, who wouldn't it cost me bugger all, not £500+ DAVE
  17. HI ALL Pets info spot on, these 2 records were massive in 74 and like most I had to have the Bootleg,Stanley Mitchell being a bench mark of a top NORTHERN SOUL RECORD (if one was needed?) with a superb Detroit beat, the thing with Bootlegs back then was once BOOTED the record was not played, this was good in one way as the price of original records fell, but I really think some records should have still got spanked, as the tempo was bang on, the same thing goes with SAXIE RUSSAL, How many years would have passed by if the oldies nights had not been introduced, a wise move me thinks, as clearly the oldies nights at the CASINO were the ultimate in NORTHERN SOUL says I DAVE...PS the B side of Stanley Mitchel made it in it's own right and makes this record as a classic must have?
  18. HI ALL The BETTY BOO come from Richard Wylie to John Anderson SOULBOWL as John did a lot of business with him, the story was given to PCRL in a excellent interview 15 years ago, The link between Richard John & RCA RECORDS Meant all was in place to release this classic, there was 1 problem in that POPCORN could not remember the name of the singer, so they used BETTY BOO, I think it was DANA VALLERY, however no one else does? the acetate, along with a few other releases is pretty unique to own & BETTY BOO is worth a bit more than most as it was not released in any other form, or was it?? as a owner of Larry Clinton "she's wanted in 3 states" & Jimmy Burns"I realy love you" RCA ACCITATE and seeing how valuable these discs are going for, a part of me would and should let it go up for sale the collector/s who have won the 2 copies that have been auctioned by John. Also I have to think what would I like as their is no proper valuation on these records, they are all rare and I would have thought some are far more desirable to have, my cat has 100% provenance and was played to DANCERS at WIGAN so it is a bit of unique RARE NORTHER SOUL, If I did get shot of it I think it would be a trade for a missing UK item that I need, if you have such stuff and would like it, this way is a fraction of the cash price? let me know, DAVE
  19. HI ALL 200% ORIGANAL, NEVER BOOTED ON SWAN, However there are reissues on the ITZY LABEL, The SOUNDS OF THE LANE "TRACKS TO YOUR MIND with ITZY in small print are bootlegs, as it was release on COBBLESTONE some 3 years later. HEY SOLAN NEY Was a huge record at the TORCH, but sadly not played these days, STATESIDE ISSUES & DEMOS are very hard to locate in 2012, and should be snapped up when seen,a guaranteed investment record, DAVE
  20. NICE ONE MATE, This is how I envisaged the post and eventually take the idea on the road 4 x years and run a record fair meet up and a few people DJ ING, JOHNNY PUGH from WOLVE did a very good event on them line 25 years ago, I really think is would take of, as when I see events with banners like STRICKLY MODERN SOUL or XOVER ??????& NORTHERN SOUL, to me it is so uncool and unknown DJ's called DJ Spanner or Mike the mike from RUNCORN? Now if it was SOULSOURCE LIVE, HITS the NORTH EAST PLAYING A HOST OF ECLECTIC BLACK MUSIC AND INSPIRED WHITE MUSIC WITH ALL THE FACES FROM OUT OF YOU BOX, YES PLEASE, TICKETS PLEASE ARE YOU GOIN? DOES A BEAR SHIT IN THE WOODS? I have got to pin another tune LATERS

  22. HI ALL, Well what a brilliant summer we have had, but all good thing;s come to a end, for the sonics on SOULSOURCE who may think I jest! I am not, think of Brother inmate, banged up deprived of a Mr WIPPEY, I remember the summer 75, we had just done the last drop off in LIECTERSHIRE /? IT WAS 7AM MONDAY MORNING, we had just joined the M1, stopped for breakfast at Forest East Services, and headed South, 1 mile from the Services, Old Bill had put up a road block, to cut a great chapter to shreds. Next thing I was facing 14 years in a maximum security prison, rubbing shoulder with Frankie Frazier, Harry Roberts (he kills coppers) John Mcvicar, they had just bought in the Cambridge rapist ( who was a always covered in piss, this was because Chris and myself just had to get a laugh each day) and hear DIDDY David Hamilton play TD VALANTINE "LOVE TRAP" as his record of the week, (from me book,"more than SKIN DEEP")? NO I am not playing TD Valentine, THIS THREAD WILL CLOSE AT 3.30am to-day & reopen at 3.45am now the kids are back at school, here comes the current bun. to end my RECORD FROM THE BOX, Is a classic 2 sided from AL TNT BRAGGS, not Earthquake, but "how long" VOCALION 9278, A MUST HAVE RECORD, ALWAYS SOUNDS FRESH, AND SHOULD BE REVIVED, As always Fantastic records that have been picked, again not 1 duff record to be found, you can see the effort that has gone with every posting, what you get every time is a quality soul record, THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR SHARING THESE WITH US ALL. ENJOY THIS ONE, DAVE K https://youtu.be/gnHrW6xKqzc
