  1. HI ALL Before I put on a couple of tunes, I must say what great 45s that have been posted, in my humble opinion, there has not been a dud, And the selection so far would make a soul night into a "GREAT SOUL NIGHT" I HAVE TO WATCH WHAT I RECOMMEND, To quote Mick Smith last week when I told him to listen to a record,"DAVE Don't turn into Russ Whinstanly" I admit the record was very pop, Do you think he was insulting my taste??..so the 1st of my recommended plays, is just for him and ant 100 Clubbers who may read or listen to this thread, I still cant put the sound bites on, however all my records are recommended and worth a play, 1. is out of my action label collection, that's 4 short from completion? this one is one of the harder ones to find, and is cheaper on the UK DION Label. ACTION 4541 "That's in the past"- BRENDA & THE TAB'S, Current value £30 -£60, a fabulous SOUL SOUND that will win you applause! if you like a good hand job? my recommendation gives it ***** on All- nighters dance-ability floor packer's, "WHAT SAY YOU" 2. This record is up for auction on Ranking Johny Manships site, and this has Mick Smith name all over it as he discovered it, and to me it's typical of Mick's talent for finding great records, and taking them to Kieth M or Tony Jebb to get played and sold back in the 71/2 years, also it would be another few years before he was recognized as a top DJ rather than a top collector, this one is Kenny Bernard "pity my feet" *** Value £150 isue £200+ DEMO. Johns write up tels more plus he mentions KIETH MANSFIELD, which links in, sadly "BOOGALOO" did not get a UK release, but you can find it on a rare Polish LP, however it did come out as a DEMO in the States on EPIC (never sen a issue" the official a side is a superb MOD dancer with lot's of Hammond organ, BOOGALOO is very powerful and again I can only state it is recommended as a ***** rating, value £60 and will be cheap at that price. DAVE
  2. HI ALL..Is it just me? I have always loved "Out ob the floor" However, it's Northern Soul credentials, are so ingrained in our Psyche, over the years we have in the main overlooked the 2 classics that he made, which at one time were a youth cult statement, in a similar way that the WHO's "my Generation!" & Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Whels "Breakout", the funder mental difference was, back in 1968/7 the other records had UK releases, In todays market the original issues of all the above, which include "the-In Crowd" LONDON, & "See you at the GO-GO" PYE INT, Especially if you have the DEMO's of them, The B side of "Se you at the GO-GO" "Walk With LOVE" is a great tune in it's own right it's a jem, don't get me wrong, "out on the floor" is a true classic, but has lost it's rare soul tag in 2011 "See you at the GO-GO" i BELIEVE STILL HAS THE GREAT, TWISTED WHEEL SOUND TO IT! DAVE
  3. HI YOU ARE TALKING CRAP IF THATS THE CASE I WILL BUY ALL YOUR COMMON UK WHITE LABELS FOR THAT PRICE PLEASE SHOW ME EVIDENCE, AND A DEMO COPY OF 501??? DAVE
  4. Hi All can any one remember the the big bloke who dressed as a ROMAN who had to stand outside the OASIS, he come from Bedford, and Aloisia's? he took photos on the sea front, he had peroxide hair and a pet monkey, he would use as a prop, real god bloke? DAVE
  5. HI yep you are right it's a 69 release, maybe 1970, And I always thought it was a response from the copyright owners to try and US to all 4 BOOTLEGS that turned up over the end period of the WHEEL. to try and get at least something back, they failed unlike SELECTA DISC who made money on all the bootlegs, and then make another tidy amount, from the new copyright owners issuing it on Black Magic making the Demo copy along with Jimmy soul Clarke, worth picking up to-day, the Strange World of NORTHERN SOUL? DAVE K
  6. HI ALL It's that timeout the year, when people start saying only 10 Weeks to Christmas! or Record Collector's Magazine reminding you of the closing date for listings for March 2012 should be in by the 21st October (this is a FICTITIOUS made up by me to make a point that most would only use 10 words). What we are looking for is your best Ebay buys of the year, it's got to be a genuine hard find that Will impress others to be at least a bit envious of your god fortune, we are not looking at jealousness as that is a complete negative vibe and can lead to people getting hurt, As we have lost the Windies in put SKA JA R&B/SOUL, REGGAE I WILL KICK OF WITH A RECORD THAT I PAID £4.99 FOR, THIS WEEK, IT'S A WELL WICKED STEAL, AND ONE OF THE HARDEST CLASSICS TO FIND ON THE UK TROJAN LABEL, JIMMY CLIFF, VIETNAM PRE RELEASE PIC COVER, The pictures say a 1000 words, so I look forward to seeing your entries?? Dave
  7. HOPE YOU DON'T MIND, AS THIS IS ONE OF THE GREAT NORTHER SOUL SOUNDS OF THEM ALL, PRICE DOES NOT MATTER IT'S A MUST HAVE RECORD, AND HARD TO FIND THESE DAYS, REMINDS ME OF TONY DELLER AND HOWARD MALLET 74 DAVE
  8. HI IT'S A LATE 76 EARLY 77 LOKING AT THE PRICES,DAVE
  9. HI ALL GOT THIS FROM JIMMY WHEN HE WAS PROMOTING HELP YOUR SELF RE-ISSUE, MORE TO COME DAVE
  10. HI AND HERE IS A VERY FADED JACKIE WILSON. A STRANGE FACT! HE DIED ON MY BIRTHDAY, I HAVE HAD TO PLAY ABOUT WITH IT, SO YOU CAN READ IT, DAVE
  11. YOU WILL NEVER BE A BOY SCOUT WITH YOUR SHIRT HANGING OUT? (My Old Dear 1967)X HI ALL As I started this thread you would think I would have spotted this photo? MORE PHOTOS PLEASE, The pub behind had it's windows put through, i can recall quite clearly that moment, i was standing on a table leading the song "ALOWETE" GOD OLD "ALOWETTE" HOW I LOVED HER BUCKLED TEETH, BLOD SHOT EYE'S STRANGELY HAIR......After a knees up and a burst of "HARRY ROBERTS IS MY FREIND!... HE KILLS COPER'S, "OVER THE WALL WE GO ALL COPPERS ARE BASTARDS" Which was the call for prepare for trouble, as the Old Bill had arrived and strait into the chant "if you all hate the (whatever) clap your habds" next vers ended stomp your boot's my last vers was " if you all hate this pub smash a glass" and on cue the pub was wrecked, the Old Bill were Decked and the windows went through, after a mass exit, I landed up in the arcade under The OASIS after 1 hour had passed, we left by the back entrance, Chris G my brother 2 geezers from Hemel and 4 from Watford and I am sure Dave Pugh and another LUTON bloke, When we reached the green there was a lot of grebe's on there, once spotted they come for us, one of them had a German army helmet on, we stood our ground, this was the incident when SNOWY an albino RUDE BOY from WATFORD got a garden rake and combed the face off this GREBES, it was the strangest thing I had ever sen his face come off! every thing just stopped, the next thing i did with Chris was run, We hid in the back of a van for 2 hours, SNOWY got HER MAJERSTY'S PLEASURE, No one else got caught, I was thinking a few years ago when I did the DISCOTHEQUE 68 & 70 That the music that was played in the NEW BEACH CELLAR BAR would be the inspiration for DISCOTHEQUE 69, Some great soul and reggae come out or was being played including some great Pop music, As for the shirt question the fashion was to look smart, which meant shirt in, but in this picture and taking in the circumstances of the Yarmouth Bank Holidays throughout 69 most of us stayed in the cattle trucks in the sidings, which was convenient for the café we named "the hut on the bridge" we ail used the WC's on the sea front to wash, especially the SOUTH DEANS Caravan park ones NICKY BIST Dad who come from WALTHEM X won the pools and bought the land for the North Deans Park, I GOT TO ADMIT THE YARMOUTH AND NORWICH BOYS "IN CROWD" Were excellent, we had 1 fight and then we were al mates and quite clearly the Gt Yarmouth boys could all handle themselves, most of them worked on the gas Riggs, the girls from the town worked at BIRDS EYE FACTORY and were out off bounds to every one who was not in the IN CROWD, i COULD WRIGHT A BOOK ON COAST IN 69 AND 70, MAYBE WORTH A READ, BUT MY DYSLEXIA, MAKES IT LITERALLY HARD, DAVE
  12. HI CRAIG I WAS SURE I RESPONDED TO THIS ADVERT? AS I COLLECT RARE UK, AND I HAVE A DEMO, YOU MAKE REFERENCE TO JOHNS UK PRICE GUIDE, WHICH HE STATES HE SOLD 1 COPY FOR £358, BUT THE GUIDE MAKES NO REFERENCE TO WHAT YEAR? THIS IS VERY MISLEADING AS WE ALL NO JOHN IS A DEALER, AND COMMON KNOWLEDGE TELLS US HE WOULD NEVER PAY THAT FOR THE RECORD, ALSO ON THE SURFACE ALL AUCTION ITEMS ARE NORMALLY HAD VERY LIMITED DECK PLAY? AND FINALLY MOST ITEMS ARE NOT HIS AS SUCH, THE ARE JUST BEING SOLD BY HIS COMPANY,IT'S ALL PART OF HIS BUSINESS PLAN, SO HE SHOULD NOT PUT THESE 1 OFF SALES IN HIS GUIDE? I remember a UK cop of BOBBY HUTTON / WILLIE HUTCH on ABC fetching £150 on Ebay about 6 years ago, the record is worth £10, or £5 if you are a record dealer? pm me if you want to sell it with what you would like for it, and nonegotiationswill beBegin DAVE
  13. HI HAVE 2 RECOMENDATIONS FOR TO-DAY, BOTH ARE FROM PYE PICCADILLY LABEL. 1. From the JIMMY JAMES LP "OPEN UP YOUR SOUL" NSPL 18231 Side 2 track 5 - "if you are gonna love me" a great song by Ebony Keyes Uptempo class, this is defenantly one to be played (again sorry no sound clip)) but again find it and play it, you will not regret it, as my repputation is at stake, the LP is quite rare value £30, does it exist on a 45 anywhere??? 2. Perhaps you may agree with me that if you collect US records and only had a few UK 45s surely this would be one of them??????? STELLA STAR - "BRING HIM BACK" PICCADILLY 7N 35366 A, One of the greats, however it is the B side that I am plugging, one of the best UK cover of a DETRIOT record/song in this case JJ Barnes "say it" again it's quality on this added to it's soulfulness is John Schroeder Orch, if you have not heared these 2, please try and hear them, I accept a lot of you are into more modern stuff rather than a record that was played 25 years ago, but for thosse of you who don't no the records try seeking thhemm out DAVE
  14. SORRY TO DISAPPOINT BUT IT DOES NOT EXIST! AND THE PROMO IS VERY RARE, I SOLD THE ACETATE LAST YEAR,, ANY WAY GOOD LUCK DAVE

HI TO YOU BLETSONIANS & THE LUTON BOYS, Did you ever go into a All- night club called the La Duce? it was a all night coffee bar that you paid 5/- to get in, only to find a juke bow 3 brasses and Soho night birds, We went in one night and there were 4 flash skinheads in there, the juke box had great records on it BANG BANG LULU WET DREAM, Any way there was about 6 of us, one bloke told me he was from Kilburn, i asked him if he knew 3 fFriendsmine who were in the Wilsdon whites? he said no and he was a member of the HENDON mafia, a small firm, he said his name was Paddy O Brian, Well thats fits in with Kilburn but not with Hendon, any way after half an hour the youngest bloke with us Paul got upset because one of them started to chat him up, he was only 16, and this was 1969, it turned out that ttheLa Duce was a GAY hangout, a fight broke out and could these bloke fight as people were leaving i had to fight on me bike going up stairs, then this O Brian got a cut throat out and swiped it at my boat, i put my arm up and ssteppedhim cutting m, when i got out on the street the razor had cut through my sheepskin, suit jacket sleeve and striped me on my right arm? just one of me SOHO adadventuresowever, O Brian and his mate, are in some skinhead fanzines that come out in the OI! PERIOD AND THTHE PICTURESRE ICONIC, i will dig them out as there is a twist to my tale?? However i raised that incident as it included the same people in this news paper article from 69.this should bring a smile to CHICHIEFYas there are a couple of BLETSOE boys in the article?? by the way if you aain'tspent a night in WEST END CENTRAL you have not lived DAVE
  16. 7/6d to be correct Pete? As I have mentioned before my SOUND SYSTEM is bespoke and ideal for playing soul and reggae it was made for me, and one day we will get a rare record collectors night going, and anyone can have a go at playing whatever comes from your box, all that's needed is a pub that is on it's last legs, someone to lift my eqpt, as I have to many health issues, there is a template of what i want this Sunday in NORWICH it only gets a few collectors but the spectrum of tunes played beats any all-nighters I don't care if only 5 people come as long as they enjoy it, any takers or in crowds please contact me, i am 60 in JAN that could be the start, do 6 over the year, all i need is a few collectors to commit themselves to attend you cant all be apathetic on a Sunday DAVE 4 F**K SAKE KILWORTH
  17. :hatsoff2:HI PETE Sometimes you have to think in a lateral way, when it comes to the mistakes on the who's who of JA music, in this case the SOUND SYSTEM featuring OWEN GREY ISLAND WI-258, HOWEVER! the WIRL copy as with 90% of JA RECORDS has the best sound, in fact it's nice to collect UK releases as in the main thats what was available to the majority of white kids back in the mid 60ts, but I would always recommend the JA copy if you like the REGGAE in your jeggae, it's the BASS that makes REGGAE, IRE! (happy) FEELING, TUNE UP! DAVE HI ALL PETE I HAVE ONLY GOT "PLAYER PLAY ON" a Levine MECCA SPIN!!! To be serious this thread is exactly as I invisiged, some quality soul so far coming from the boxes DAVE

  19. HI ALL If you keep the public back 10 foot you could play this copy and get away with it?
  20. HI That's a great question, that I don't know the answer to, I have done a little bit of DJing, but nothing this side of 2000, why! as I have a decent collection, I admit that I am a blockhead but thats no reason, i put it down to this, if the venue has not got a record dealer selling rare soul, you can guarantee that the music is not on original records, that is not to say you are in for a bad night, far from it, the issue though is if you are at an all nighters, this is time to egg and flour the DJ time DAVE
  21. HI ALL ONLY IF YOU WANT TO BUST THE PICK UP ARM?? NO DJ SHOULD PLAY A BOOTLEG EVER, SO THE ANSWER IS A 100% NO, IF YOU DISAGREE MOVE OVER AND LET SOMEONE ELSE THE SPOT, WHO PLAYS RARE SOUL ORIGANALS DAVE
  22. HI ALL When people talk about putting together a film or a play about the casino, how come they never consult with the record dealers of the day who where just as much a part of the Casino, on the GRANADA program the film crew spent a lot of time shooting the record sales in the bar area, but apart for less than 1 minute appears in the final program, this includes my record box, why do they not recognize the stalwarts of the scene? DAVE
  23. HI ALL THIS IS A NICE ONE! I LIKEIT ANYWAY, ALSO ONE OF MY FAV RECORDS, DAVE
