I am the undisputed king of the boot sales. Up most Sunday mornings at 5 am and trawling through tons of shite but believe me there just is not much stuff soul wise that comes out nowadays , it really is hard work! 2 nice albums I have had the last couple of weeks for 20p and 50p with interesting tracks. Super soul on 1967 Pye International with tracks by Chuck Jackson , Tommy Hunt , Roscoe Robinson , J J Barnes and Bobby Hebb to name a few. Second one is Blues and soul on 1966 Marble Arch with obscure tracks from The Entertainers , Mitty Collier - My party , Brilliant! and Two in the morning by Spooners Crowd , Hmm interesting.
  2. I never went there but my missus was going there all the time when she was 14 , reckoned she loved it there. I think the buildings still there but it looks derelict. There was also Willenhall baths just up the road from there which I did go to which was a decent soul night.
  3. Around 1975/76 when I was 14 or 15 I remember travelling to Walsall town hall to my first real soul night on the bus and a tall lad in a long leather coat going on about a record by Lee Roye called Tears bieng the greatest northern soul record and agreeing with him though I'd never even heard it ! When I got there I can remember the dancefloor erupting to The Kid by Andre Brasseur and thinking it was the greatest record I had ever heard. Cant remember anything else played that night. Funny how things stick in your mind.
  4. You are right Col. I had one when I was young. Fetching nearly as much as rare soul 45s on Ebay nowadays https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW
  5. Ill give you a bag of doughnuts and a scan of the Marvellos 45
  6. Your version is booked at £1200 in The Tim Brown guide. In my opinion nowhere near as good as The Marvellos effort which starts really slow but builds into superb tune. Hope this soundclip works.
  7. The Marvellos version is "We go together" on Loma 2045. It is on my CD from the recent CD swap. Did you get yours OK Dan ? Will see if I still have it on my PC if not will dig the record out and put up a soundclip.
  8. Ive got the Marvellos version on Loma. Who is this by?

I am just about to spend £150.00 on a small but beautiful monthly venue and if I lose £25.00 every month it will not concern me in the slightest . Whats £6.25 a week , a packet of fags.
  10. I've got a couple or three reggae singles Ive had off the car boot sales lately Pete that you can have a look at that I dont know much about the next time I see you. BTW picked up a copy of Mama were all crazee now by Denzil Dennis on Pama Supreme which is a cover of The Slade hit but you've probably got it anyway. Dont forget to give me a ring on 01902 659017.
  11. Stumbled upon Roy Hamilton - Reach out for me, today while listening to some radio show and as much as I love the Lou Johnson and Dione Warwick versions , this sent a shiver down my spine with the amazing vocal performance. Pure soul at its finest. But was this ever released on any 45 rpm format?
  12. I know there have been a few midweek nights round here lately , all on a Thursday night one at Brierly Hill , one at Netherton i think run by Kenny Lee but dont know if these are going now . The other Thursday one is at those bogs that have been turned into a nightclub in Bilston next to the Spread Eagle pub , I noticed a large sign outside last week advertising a Northern soul & Motown night every Thursday but who runs it or what formats played there is anyones guess. Ill give you a bell next week Pete because Ive got some decent decks and gear now and maybe we can arrange something , worth a try anyway
  13. Last night I was offered a large room with a dancefloor at no cost basically to hold a soul night but on one condition that put me off straight away . It must be on a Sunday night . Which brings me round to the question. Do soul nights only generally work well on a Friday and Saturday and does anthying else the rest of the week seem to suffer for obvious reasons or are there exceptions?

Footsee by the Chosen Few on Roulette . Came out years before the dreaded Wigans chose few rubbish and is nearly as bad but for some reason I love it
