  1. He he! I'm trying to put a decent hotbox together with 'em so I can do a bit o' that there Deeeeejaaaying lark everyone puts so much store by. But then of course you're expected to lop yer lugs off and start pontificating to all and sundry about just how good records like that George Lemons that yer paid a grand for are! He He! Here's another couple that got dusted off: First one created, produced and performed by one of the greatest rhythm sections to ever grace a studio and recorded at the one of the greatest studio set ups ever. The second one starts with Leon Huff's greatest hour in my opinion. There's a reason these records topped the charts eh....cos they're bleedin' fantastic! https://youtu.be/ejrWHEsyS40 Regards, Dave
  2. Played these two in Frankie's last month. Great songs, great records sung by real singers: https://youtu.be/P2uQyP-I2VI https://youtu.be/dYTqTPmTZ0o
  3. The Q and A session are something that I've banged on about for a number of years. Most people who bring acts to UK won't do them. The reckoning is that there's no demand. When we got the Dynodynamics Production Team together a few years ago (for the first time on 40 years), we set up a whole afternoon where we asked them about their lives in music. A simple set up of a couple of mics, a set of turntables to play the odd track (or parts of) being discussed and I have to say it was a great afternoon. What made it even better was that we had young American record collectors/fans with us and they loved it. To be fair, at Prestatyn there was always the afternoons prior to the Main Saturday night show to interview the artists and that was also great but to do it in front of an audience with all the questions being furnished from fans in that audience is a special way of doing it in my opinion. The artists seem to get a real buzz out of being reminded about their former lives from the 'shop floor' scenario. The recent Kenny Gamble interview with Richard Searling and Ralph Tee to promote the upcoming CD of Philadelphia's TSOP era is a great example of an opportunity that could have been opened up to such an audience. Some real answers to some real questions could have been gotten. We do it with sportsmen, politicians, other people of note so why not our heroes too? I'd pay for an structured evening with some of the artists, that's for sure and I know plenty of others that would. Good thread. Nice One. Regards, Dave

The last Mini LP from the Motown company was Diana Ross - Everything Is Everything to promote the full album which was issued in the US on Motown 724 in October 1970. The ones issued after this actually were/are regarded as EPs as far as I know. There are two really distinct types of Motown Mini LP. 1. The ones that were issued in the 60s, made from good quality cardboard and were specifically manufactured for jukebox use, hence they all have Jukebox inserts and title strips as well . I think, (without digging through my notes), that these were manufactured in Ohio somewhere if my memory serves me correctly?* I think there are 32 of these. At least the first one: Great March To Freedom and the final one : Voices Of The Tabernacle have no picture sleeve. Apart from these two they were all issued on a mini label of the LP they were culled from and came with a fantastic full color exact replicas of the albums too. But no inner sleeves that Motown's albums of that era are famous for were issued with them to my knowledge. (Shame). 2. The ones that were issued in paper sleeves for the 70s, (of which there are only 4), have none (to my knowledge at least), of the jukebox inserts or title strips. These later ones were manufactured by Little LPs Unlimited a company in Northfield, Illinois. * I'm not 100% sure though. I need a couple to complete if anyone can help? Jr Walker - Shotgun Martha and The Vandellas - Watchout Regards, Dave
  7. Congrats to all at Ace/Kent. Massive achievement and could only have happened due to the all round quality of their products. Here's to another 30 years! Regards, Dave
  8. Happy 90th Birthday Joe, From Peanuts and the Popeye to Put Your Loving Arms Around Me and HOT Records. Joe Cook, a real live musical legend. Enjoy your Birthday Joe, you earned it. Lots of continued happiness, Dave and Bev Moore XXX Jas, Give him a BIG hug from Europe Mate.
  9. That posting Krissi, leads me to believe that you don't know the first thing about collecting records. It's not about the PRICE of things it's about the VALUE they contain. Good record collections are literally FULL of cheap but wonderful records. I find that the bootleg DJ's 'collections' are full of imitation expensive records. There's a world of difference between the 'drive' of a collector and the 'desperation' to DJ. Just my opinion.
  10. Reflections? Recorded at Golden World Sang songs by Popcorn Wyie, Freddie Gorman, et al Tracks played on by Funk Brothers Steeped in Detroit's musical heydays same as Shades Of Blue at Impact with Harry Balk and Duke Browner. Methinks you've fallen for the 'party line' Macca lad. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/ojNQz-NjlZg

  19. Anymore details Bob. Is the show(s) available on DVD anywhere? Seems every DJ of the ear had a stab at a TV show. Be grat if someone collated them all and put them on DVDs. Regards, Dave Paul, You're right I think! Lypsynch ala Bandstand maybe? The later Top and Bottom 45s were done at Sigma and the Gamble and Huff productions were Young, Baker, Harris et al but be nice to ID the earlier Dionn musicians. Regards, Dave
  20. Great record. Brave lad who puts that on the Technics at a dance venue at 2am. Well done that man! Regards, Dave
  21. This is more like it. This puts me one more step along the road. Just need corroboration of exactly who the others were now. I know who they are but need an independent source to confirm. Thanks Sean. Regards, Dave
  22. Yep, I've already seen all the net based stuff. I'd just like to have a definitive source of ownership of the two labels it's claimed she owned. I also heard she owned Fairmount but find that very hard to believe as that label was a reincarnation of the Pageant logo owned by the Lowe/Mann partnership. John, she was his wife so I suspect there were interweaving interests but she was an independent producer too. AND...stop posting your cheap Billboard scans. I have had to source some of the originals for my project!
