Northern Soul Film
A lot of talk about commercialising and money making re this film on this and other related threads. Anyone ever just thought that the script writer, like most script/story writers, just wanted to see their work put into a form of media and delivered to production for other people's viewing?? Isn't that what these guys n gals strive for? Their (sometimes life) work in the public eye? Or would that be too idealistic to be true! Sure they stand to make a few quid, but I'm pretty confident there's more 'commercial' scenes and cults to actually make money out of

A very fair point chalky. As with all bigger ticket soul records, demand never seems to fall and it's typical of the point that people will pay what they wanna pay. If they're not prepared to fork out big money, I'm sure pat and the likes will find someone who is

Essence Of Love/ Eugene Smiley And Essence Of Love
Cheers Nev. Take it price doesnt differ between the Eugene Smiley & Essence of love? A really great track, although dont think it tops the wants list for me at that price, better tunes to chase for the dosh

£2K doesnt surprise me to be honest. Not because this is a rare record worth that price but it's typical of the avg margin's Pat & John are somehow able to achieve on auction items. Eddie who plays at our do bought one for £1600 last year and i thought he paid over the odds.

Northern Soul Film
Yep, they did one in Manchester too..............but since then it's gone back for a lot of re-working. I think the general concensus was that it was a bit wet storyline wise and could do with a bit more grit. Hopefully the finished article will have this. Remains to be seen. The sound track is pretty well put together and the songs fit the parts of the films they appear in from the test screening i saw. Everyone's entitled to their opinion of it, good or bad, and im looking forward to teh pages and pages of mud slinging that will follow on here

King Diamond
I was fortunate enough to pick up a copy of this incredibly soulful tune a while ago: King Diamond - A message to a black woman Besides it being a fantastic funky crossover gem that seems to be getting some spins of late and demand going up, i searched on ebay t'other day and noticed there's one on there but a different coloured label. to mine. Just wondered what the difference between the blue label and the orange/reddy pink label is? Cheers Azza

Is It Acceptable To Do A Soul Night With Cd's
Not sure you have to be 'known' on the scene to run a decent night, it goes on music policy, DJ line ups, venue and, probably a little more prominant in this thread, ethics (as in vinyl vs CD). Personally, if you put a night on playing vinyl released records on CD, i probably wouldnt attend, mainly because it usually just leads another pure classic oldies night with little variation in tunes that i cant hear elsewhere, but that's just my opinion. I think to ask someone to pay money to attend a place where they play CD's which are readily available in your own home, often for free, is unlikely to work. However you may find an audience who'd lap it up (unlikely IMO). I am a vinyl man and for me it has to be OVO but again, its just my opinion. Im sure a lot will side with me but the arguement of vinyl vs CD's is never going to end on here. What would make your night different, although from reading your post i dont think it's likely, is if you played soul tracks which were only available as MP3 or CD releases. Then it would be acceptable, although probably not very sustainable. Azza

Marvin Gaye Lucky Lucky Me
Certainly did Rich. Got the 12" at home, it's the same as the re-mixed 7" which was UK release i think, but has some rather great sounding reggae style mixes on it as a bonus. The original which has now thankfully been brought out on a legitimate issue by Neil Rushton is spectacular. First heard it on a CD Biff gave me almost 10 years ago. Took me a long time to establish that version was unreleased (shoulda probably just asked Biff and saved myself some bollock ache!!). Did a similar thing with Jackie Ross too but took less time to suss it was unreleased. Is there any difference between the singles now on general sale compared to the ones delivered with the book does anyone know? Azza
